Previous attempts to shorten the distraction osteogenesis time, by increasing the rate of distraction have been unsuccessful and associated with high incidence of bony non-union. Control of the infection is another important factor on the success of the distraction osteogenesis. Performance of effective distraction osteogenesis can be enhanced by application of different kind of drugs. These substances have been delivered localized areas or specific bones in the body, thus avoiding systemic toxicity and the need for higher quantities of the desired drug to achieve therapeutic levels at the site of action.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un distracteur qui contient une unité de libération de médicament et peut libérer un type quelconque de médicaments après une intervention chirurgicale tandis que le procédé de distraction est en cours. Alors que la tige à engrenage tourne pour la distraction, le mouvement est transmis au piston de l'unité de libération. La longue tête du piston est fixée à la partie mobile distale du distracteur et la tête courte du piston est insérée dans l'orifice postérieur du contenant qui peut avoir une quelconque forme géométrique ou un quelconque volume. L'orifice antérieur du récipient est situé au niveau de la zone de distraction. On a démontré que la libération continue d'un agent ostéoinducteur lors de la distraction facilite l'ossification. Un type quelconque de médicament peut être utilisé pour la manipulation d'ostéogenèse en distraction avec le présent dispositif.
