Abstract

The present invention is a method for use by a plurality of users to manage and document activities within a laboratory environment using radio frequency identification (RFID) tags as automated data-entry devices within a Laboratory Information Management System (LEMS). Standard or custom RFID tags are attached to any number or type of desired objects, including but not limited to samples or specimens; laboratory instruments; laboratory reagents; laboratory expendable supplies; and storage areas (including freezers, refrigerators, incubators, etc.). Laboratory workers also wear identification badges incorporating RFID tags. Any laboratory activity can be monitored and automatically documented in this manner.
