Abstract

A method for inserting a digital field into an electronic file, the method including preparing an electronic file(lϑ), such as a document, during preparation, inserting at least one marker(16) which is not usually present in such files, the marker defining a pre-selected digital field to be inserted in the file in place of the marker, the marker including data defining at least one property of the digital field, identifying the marker, retrieving the data included therein, and replacing the marker with the pre-selected field in accordance with the retrieved data and storing the property data.
