Abstract

A process for preparing N-acyl-α-amino nitriles having the formula (I), where R1, R2 and R3 are each, independently of one another, hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, alkenyl or alkynyl group which may optionally be substituted, R4 is hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, alkenyl or alkynyl group which may optionally be substituted, in which an imine having the formula (Il) or compounds which form the imine having the formula (Il) in situ, where R1, R2 and R3 are as defined above, is reacted in the presence of a catalyst with a nitrile compound of the formula (III), where R4 is an alkyl, aryl, alkenyl or alkynyl group which may optionally be substituted or is -OR5, -SR6 or -NR7R8, where R5, R6, R7 and R8 are each, independently of one another, hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, alkenyl or alkynyl group, is claimed. The nitriles obtained can be converted in a manner known per se into the corresponding amino acids.
