Abstract

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Sicherheitselement (20) für Sicherheitspapiere, Wertdokumente und dergleichen mit einer Trägerfolie (22), die zumindest in einem Teilbereich mit einer Ausrichtungsschicht (24) mit einer im Wesentlichen vernachlässigbaren optischen Wirkung versehen ist, und mit einer auf der Ausrichtungsschicht (24) angeordneten, ausgerichteten Motivschicht (30) auf Basis eines flüssigkristallinen Materials, die zumindest zwei ein Motiv bildende Bereiche (32, 34) mit unterschiedlicher Orientierung des flüssigkristallinen Materials aufweist. Erfindungsgemäß ist die Ausrichtungsschicht (24) aus einem cholesterischen flüssigkristallinen Material gebildet und die Schichtdicke der Ausrichtungsschicht (24) ist so gewählt, dass ihre optische Wirkung im Wesentlichen vernachlässigbar ist. Darüber hinaus ist die unterschiedliche Orientierung der Motivschichtbereiche (32, 34) durch eine unterschiedliche effektive Höhe der helikalen Struktur des cholesterischen Flüssigkristallmaterials der Ausrichtungsschicht (24) bewirkt.
