Description

Description
Metal connection pipe for gas equipment.
The present patent application for industrial invention refers to a metal connection pipe for gas equipment, with special reference to gas cook tops, where metal pipes are normally used to connect stove burners and gas cocks. The said pipes are fixed to the burner or cock according to a standardised technique, which makes use of a bush inserted in the pipe end and tightened to a connection nozzle on the body of the gas cock or burner.
In order to guarantee hermetical seal, the terminal section of the pipe, in proximity of its ending section, is provided with a support with truncated- conical profile, which matches with a corresponding profile on the mouth of the nozzle. »
Assuming that the nozzle is a female nozzle, i.e. able to receive the terminal section of the connection pipe, the front side of the support has an inclined profile that converges forward with respect to the longitudinal axis of the pipe, while the profile of the rear side is perfectly orthogonal to the said axis.
As a matter of fact, the bush discharges its tightening pressure against the rear side, in such a way that the terminal section of the pipe is pushed forward inside the nozzle, thus compressing the front truncated-conical side of the support against the corresponding mouth of the nozzle, it being evident that hermetic seal depends on the perfect adherence between these two opposite annular crowns with truncated-conical profile that are engaged and compressed one against the other.
To prevent the bush from transmitting undesired torsional stresses to the support, in addition to the axial thrust, and indirectly to the pipe, a friction washer is positioned between the bush and the support, in such a way that the bush rubs the washer, which absorbs the torsional stresses and discharges the unaltered axial stress on the support. It must be said that the external support is obtained by plastically deforming the pipe, whose terminal end is inserted into a mould, which comprises a pin suitable to be exactly inserted inside the terminal section of the pipe and a cramp that externally tightens the said section and pushes it with axial direction against the matrix of the mould strong enough to form the support in external position of the terminal section and in proximity of the ending section.
Because of the pin, during the forming process of the support, the pipe wall swells outwards, being unable to bend inwards, thus avoiding undesired shrinking of the internal section of the pipe, whose diameter maintains its nominal value.
In view of the above, the bush and the friction washer are inserted inside the terminal section of the pipe before moulding the pipe itself.
Due to the inevitable presence of burrs on the washer edge and to the inevitable slight ovalization of the terminal section of the pipe in the cramp area, a tolerance of some tenths of millimetre must be allowed between the external diameter of the pipe and the diameter of the washer, in order to favour the insertion of the washer and the passage through bends of the connection pipe. Due to this inevitable tolerance, when the bush is tightened, the friction washer can be out of alignment with respect to the pipe, thus impairing the uniform distribution of friction and axial thrust.
As mentioned above, hermetical seal is guaranteed only if the axial thrusts are uniformly distributed on the support, whose function is basically to discharge the said thrusts uniformly on the opposite matching surfaces, i.e. the pipe on one side and the nozzle on the other side.
In case of energetic tightening of the bush, if off-centred, the washer may scratch the rear side of the support, indirectly generating the formation of annular or semicircular ribs on the support, which tend to penetrate in the spaces between pipe and washer.
Evidently, should the said ribs reach the rear of the washer, the function of the washer itself would be completely neutralized, since the bush would rub the ribs, causing a dangerous torsional stress for the pipe.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a solution to the aforementioned drawbacks, by devising a new metal connection pipe for gas equipment, with special reference to gas cook tops, in which the tolerance between the friction washer and the pipe is eliminated, with consequent solution of all the aforementioned problems, arising from the fact that the washer is free to assume an off-centred position with respect to the pipe section in which it is inserted.
In order to ensure hermitical seal, the pipe of the invention is traditionally provided with bush, friction washer, and support in external position on the terminal section and in proximity of its ending section.
According to the pipe of the invention, the bush and washer are inserted in the pipe before moulding the shaped support.
The peculiarity of the pipe of the invention consists in the presence of a terminal section with external diameter larger than the nominal diameter.
More precisely, the external diameter of the terminal section with increased diameter is equal to the internal diameter of the friction washer and the bush, which are perfectly centred in this terminal section of the pipe.
The technique used to obtain the said terminal section with larger external diameter is the traditional moulding technique through plastic deformation of the material, using an ordinary mould, equipped with the traditional cramp to grab and push the pipe with axial direction, with the pin to be inserted in the pipe and with a suitable matrix to increase the external diameter of the pipe and form an external support on the section of pipe that is being expanded.
Attention is drawn on the fact that the expanded section of the pipe is delivered perfectly circular from the moulding process, due to the fact that in the pipe of the invention the cramp grabs the pipe behind the place in which the shaped support is formed, i.e. immediately upstream the terminal section with larger diameter.
An additional advantage of the present invention consists in the use of connection pipes with lower diameter and lower cost compared to the nozzle to which they are coupled, since the said difference is eliminated in the terminal section of the pipe, that is to say in the section directly involved in hermetical seal.
Evidently, in such a circumstance the terminal section is given an external larger diameter equal to the diameter of the matching nozzle.
For purposes of clarity, the description of the connection pipe according to the present invention continues with reference to the enclosed drawing, which is intended for purposes of illustration only and not in a limiting sense, whereby: - fig. 1 is a section of one terminal section of the connection pipe of the invention with an axial plane, in the version with female nozzle, able to receive the terminal section of the connection pipe;
- fig. 2 is a section of one terminal section of the connection pipe of the invention with an axial plane, in the version with male nozzle, able to be inserted in the terminal section of the connection pipe;
- fig. 3 is a view of the connection pipe of fig. 1 , before being coupled with the female nozzle of a gas equipment by means of fixing bush and friction washer;
- fig. 4 is a view of the connection pipe of fig. 1 , before being coupled with the male nozzle of a gas equipment by means of fixing bush and friction washer.
With reference to the aforementioned figures, in order to ensure hermetical seal, the connection pipe of the invention is traditionally provided with a fixing bush (1 ), with relevant friction washer (2), and with a shaped support in external position on the terminal section (4). If the connection pipe (T) is coupled with a female nozzle (BF), as shown in fig. 3, the terminal section (4) and the proximity of the ending section (5) are provided with a support (6) with truncated-conical profile, obtained during moulding, whose front side (6a) protrudes and converges forwards, while the rear side (6b) is perpendicular to the axis of the pipe (T). After being tightened inside the female nozzle (BF), the fixing bush (1 ) discharges its tightening pressure against the rear side (6b), with the interposition of the friction washer (2). The peculiarity of the pipe (T) of the invention consists in the fact that the external diameter (De) of the ending section (4) is larger than the external nominal diameter (Dn) of the pipe (T).
The expansion of the terminal section (4) is obtained during moulding - using means and technologies that are known to the experts of the field - when the support (6) is formed.
If the connection pipe (T) is coupled with a male nozzle (BM), as shown in fig. 4, the terminal section (4) is provided with a support (60) with truncated-conical profile, obtained with moulding. The support (60) practically coincides with the mouth of the pipe, which is given a bottle-neck profile with ascending direction towards the ending section (50), obtained with moulding.
Also in this case, after being tightened inside the male nozzle (BM), the fixing bush (1) discharges its tightening pressure against the rear side (60b) of the thrust-block (60), with the interposition of the friction washer (2).
