Abstract

The pedal unit (P) comprises a load-bearing structure (10, 11), a first valve device and a second valve device (12, 13) which are connected to the load-bearing structure (10, 11) and can be operated selectively for the control of a clutch coupling device and of the braking system of the motor vehicle, respectively, and a first pedal member and a second pedal member (14, 15) which are mounted pivotably in the load-bearing structure (10, 11) and side by side transversely and which, when acted on, can control the first valve device (12) and the second valve device (13), respectively. The valve devices (12, 13) are connected to the load-bearing structure (10) in a region (16) disposed between the planes of pivoting of the associated pedal members (14, 15) so that, in the event of a predominantly frontal impact of the motor vehicle against an obstacle, the valve devices (12, 13) can move towards the driver without pushing or pulling the pedal members (14, 15) towards the latter.
