Abstract

A structure for separating a display unit and a PCB control unit in a flat panel display device is disclosed. The structure includes a display unit including a case, a liquid crystal, a panel and a backlight unit, and a PCB control unit including an AD board, a power supply and an inverter. The PCB control unit is connected and disconnected to/from the display unit in a contact or non-contact manner. Accordingly, the display device can be made slim, and maintenance costs can be saved by replacing only the damaged or superannuated display unit while leaving the PCB control unit available in the display device. Also, only the PCB control unit can be replaced by a brand new product, while leaving the display unit as it is. Accordingly, the display device can be upgraded with only the replacement of the PCB control unit.

Description STRUCTURE FOR SEPARATING DISPLAY UNIT AND PCB
CONTROL UNIT IN FLAT PANEL DISPLAY DEVICE
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a structure for separating a display unit and a PCB control unit in a flat panel display device, and more particularly to a structure for separating a display unit and a PCB control unit in a flat panel display device that is capable of disconnecting and connecting the display unit and the PCB control unit in the flat panel display device including an LCD, a PDP, or an OLED. Background Art
[2] Fig. 1 is a side-sectional view illustrating a conventional display device. As shown in the drawing, a display device 202 is supported by a stand 240 which accommodates an image supply part 208. A case 226 accommodates a filter 228, two PDPs 220, two circuit units 230, and a chassis base 222. The PDPs 220 and the circuit units 230 are attached to the chassis base 222 by an adhesive agent.
[3] However, because the display units and the circuit units are attached to the chassis base by an adhesive agent, the above conventional display device has the problem that an overall thickness of the device becomes too thick. Further, when replacing the damaged or superannuated display units, the circuit units also should be replaced, although the circuit units are available. Accordingly, maintenance and repair costs become high.
Disclosure of Invention Technical Problem
[4] Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a structure for separating a display unit and a PCB control unit in a flat panel display device that is capable of disconnecting and connecting the display unit and the PCB control unit in a contact or non-contact manner in the flat panel display device including an LCD, a PDP, or an OLED, thereby replacing only the display unit while leaving the PCB control unit available in the display device. [5] In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, the above and other objects can be accomplished by the provision of a structure for separating a display unit and a PCB control unit in a flat panel display device including an LCD, a PDP, or an OLED, being characterized in that: the display unit includes a case, a liquid crystal which is provided at a front portion of the case, a panel and a backlight unit which are contained in the case, and the PCB control unit includes an AD board, a power supply, and an inverter. The PCB control unit is connected and disconnected to/from the display unit.
[6] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the PCB control unit is further provided with a function of a hard disk or a computer.
[7] In accordance with a further aspect of the present invention, the PCB control unit is connected to a set-top box of a video recorder or a home theater system.
[8] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the display unit is provided with an input terminal at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit having a keypad shape is connected to the display unit in such a manner that USB adapters of a USB extension cable are connected to the input terminal and the PCB control unit, and is independently disposed behind the display unit.
[9] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the display unit is provided with an input terminal at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit having a keypad shape is connected to the display unit in such a manner that USB adapters of a USB extension cable are connected to the input terminal and the PCB control unit, and is disposed in a stand or a cabinet.
[10] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the display unit is provided with an input terminal at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit is connected to the display unit in such a manner that USB adapters of a USB extension cable are connected to the input terminal and the PCB control unit, and is disposed in a single set-top box or another set-top box of a video recorder or a home theater system.
[11] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the display unit is provided with a connecting part at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit is provided with a coupling part at a front surface which is joined to the connecting part of the display unit, and is fixed to the display unit by using bolts.
[12] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the display unit is provided with a connecting part and grooves at a rear surface and guide recesses at rear left and right side portions, and the PCB control unit is provided with a coupling part at a front surface and protrusions at front left and right side portions. The coupling part of the PCB control unit is guided along the grooves of the display unit and joined to the connecting part, and the PCB control unit is fixed to the display unit by the protrusions being inserted along the guide recesses.
[13] In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the display unit is provided with an insertion part at a side surface, and the PCB control unit is inserted into the insertion part.
[14] In accordance with yet another aspect of the present invention, the display unit is provided with a first connecting terminal, a latching device and coupling recesses at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit is provided with a second connecting terminal, a fixing recess and coupling protrusions that are joined to the first connecting terminal, the latching device and the coupling recesses of the display unit, respectively.

Best Mode [24] Now, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the annexed drawings. [25] Figs. 2 to 8 are views illustrating a structure for separating a display unit and a printed circuit board (PCB) control unit in a flat panel display device in accordance with first to seventh embodiments of the present invention, respectively. [26] The present invention provides a structure for separating a display unit and a PCB control unit in a flat panel display device including a liquid crystal display (LCD), a plasma display panel (PDP), or an organic light emitting diodes (OLED). The LCD comprises a panel, a backlight unit, and a control circuit. The PDP and the OLED respectively comprise a self-illuminating panel and a control circuit. In the present invention, the panel and the backlight unit of the LCD and the self-illuminating panel of the PDP and the OLED are defined as the display unit.
[27] Figs. 2 to 4 illustrate that a display unit 10 and a PCB control unit 20 are connected in a non-contact manner, and Figs. 5 to 8 illustrate that the display unit 10 and the PCB control unit 20 are connected in a contact manner.
[28] Fig. 2 shows the first embodiment of the present invention. As shown in the drawing, the display unit 10 includes a case 14, a liquid crystal 11 which is provided at a front portion of the case 14, a panel 12 and a backlight unit 13 which are contained in the case 14. The keypad-shaped PCB control unit 20 is independently provided behind the display unit 10. The PCB control unit 20 includes an analog/digital (AD) board, a power supply, and an inverter. The PCB control unit 20 is additionally provided with a function of a hard disk or a computer.
[29] The display unit 10 is provided with an input terminal 15 at its rear surface. The PCB control unit 20 is connected to the display unit 10 in such a manner that universal serial bus (USB) adapters 21 of a USB extension cable 22 are connected to the input terminal 15 of the display unit 10 and the PCB control unit 20.
[30] Fig. 3 shows the second embodiment of the present invention. As shown in the drawing, the display unit 10 and the PCB control unit 20 are connected to each other in the same manner as the first embodiment shown in Fig. 2, and the PCB control unit 20 is contained in a cabinet 30 or a stand (e.g., a TV table) which supports the flat panel display device.
[31] Fig. 4 shows the third embodiment of the present invention. As shown in the drawing, the display unit 10 is provided with the input terminal 15 at its rear surface, and the PCB control unit 20 is connected to the display unit 10 in such a manner that the USB adapters 21 of the USB extension cable 22 are connected to the input terminal 15 of the display unit 10 and the PCB control unit 20. The PCB control unit 20 is connected to another set-top box of a video recorder or a home theater system, or is contained in the set-top box.
[32] Fig. 5 shows the fourth embodiment of the present invention. As shown in the drawing, the display unit 10 is provided with a connecting part 16 at its rear surface, and the PCB control unit 20 is provided with a coupling part 26 at its front surface which is joined to the connecting part 16 of the display unit 10. The PCB control unit 20 is fixed to the display unit 10 by using bolts 25.
[33] Fig. 6 shows the fifth embodiment of the present invention. As shown in the drawing, the display unit 10 is provided with the connecting part 16 and grooves 16a at its rear surface, and the PCB control unit 20 is provided with the coupling part 26 at its front surface. The grooves 16a extend from the top of the display unit 10 to the connecting part 16, along which the coupling part 26 of the PCB control unit 20 is guided and joined to the connecting part 16 of the display unit 10. The display unit 10 is further provided with guide recesses 17 at its rear left and right side portions, and the PCB control unit 20 is further provided with protrusions 27 at its front left and right side portions. The PCB control unit 20 is fixed to the display unit 10 by the protrusions 27 being inserted along the guide recesses 17.
[34] Fig. 7 shows the sixth embodiment of the present invention. As shown in the drawing, the display unit 10 is provided with an insertion part 10a at its side surface, and the PCB control unit 20 is inserted into the insertion part 10a.
[35] Fig. 8 shows the seventh embodiment of the present invention. As shown in the drawing, the display unit 10 is provided with a first connecting terminal 18, a latching device 19 and coupling recesses 18a at its rear surface, and the PCB control unit 20 is provided with a second connecting terminal 28, a fixing recess 29 and coupling protrusions 28a. The second connecting terminal 28, the fixing recess 29 and the coupling protrusions 28a of the PCB control unit 20 are joined to the first connecting terminal 18, the latching device 19 and the coupling recesses 18a of the display unit 10, respectively. [36] As apparent from the above description, the structure for separating the display unit and the PCB control unit in the flat panel display device including an LCD, a PDP, or an OLED according to the present invention is capable of disconnecting and connecting the display unit and the PCB control unit in a contact or non-contact manner, thereby making the flat panel display device slim, and saving maintenance and repair costs by replacing only the damaged or superannuated display unit while leaving the PCB control unit available in the display device.
[37] Also, only the PCB control unit can be replaced by a brand new product which is upgraded with reinforced image and sound qualities, or the like, while leaving the display unit as it is. Accordingly, the display device can be upgraded with only the replacement of the PCB control unit.
[38] Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been disclosed for illustrative purposes, those skilled in the art will appreciate that various modifications, additions and substitutions are possible, without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention as disclosed in the accompanying claims.

[1] A structure for separating a display unit and a PCB control unit in a flat panel display device including an LCD, a PDP, or an OLED, being characterized in that: the display unit includes a case, a liquid crystal which is provided at a front portion of the case, a panel and a backlight unit which are contained in the case, and the PCB control unit includes an AD board, a power supply, and an inverter, wherein the PCB control unit is connected and disconnected to/from the display unit.
[2] The structure according to claim 1, wherein the PCB control unit is further provided with a function of a hard disk or a computer.
[3] The structure according to claim 1, wherein the PCB control unit is connected to a set-top box of a video recorder or a home theater system.
[4] The structure according to claim 1, wherein the display unit is provided with an input terminal at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit having a keypad shape is connected to the display unit in such a manner that USB adapters of a USB extension cable are connected to the input terminal and the PCB control unit, and is independently disposed behind the display unit.
[5] The structure according to claim 1, wherein the display unit is provided with an input terminal at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit having a keypad shape is connected to the display unit in such a manner that USB adapters of a USB extension cable are connected to the input terminal and the PCB control unit, and is disposed in a stand or a cabinet.
[6] The structure according to claim 1, wherein the display unit is provided with an input terminal at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit is connected to the display unit in such a manner that USB adapters of a USB extension cable are connected to the input terminal and the PCB control unit, and is disposed in a single set-top box or another set-top box of a video recorder or a home theater system.
[7] The structure according to claim 1, wherein the display unit is provided with a connecting part at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit is provided with a coupling part at a front surface which is joined to the connecting part of the display unit, and is fixed to the display unit by using bolts.
[8] The structure according to claim 1, wherein the display unit is provided with a connecting part and grooves at a rear surface and guide recesses at rear left and right side portions, and the PCB control unit is provided with a coupling part at a front surface and protrusions at front left and right side portions, whereby the coupling part of the PCB control unit is guided along the grooves of the display unit and joined to the connecting part, and the PCB control unit is fixed to the display unit by the protrusions being inserted along the guide recesses.
[9] The structure according to claim 1, wherein the display unit is provided with an insertion part at a side surface, and the PCB control unit is inserted into the insertion part.
[10] The structure according to claim 1, wherein the display unit is provided with a first connecting terminal, a latching device and coupling recesses at a rear surface, and the PCB control unit is provided with a second connecting terminal, a fixing recess and coupling protrusions that are joined to the first connecting terminal, the latching device and the coupling recesses of the display unit, respectively.
