Abstract

A solar water-heating apparatus (10, 110, 210, 310, 410, 510) comprises an outer container (20) sized and configured to receive a smaller inner container (22, 522). The inner container includes an opening (46, 546) formed in an upright wall (40, 540) and an opening (48) formed in a floor (42). The inner container defines a reservoir (44) capable of receiving a liquid. A gap (60) is located between the two containers. Once the device has been filled with a liquid, the liquid present within the gap may be heated by solar energy. The device may include a valve (70, 570) to prevent unintended flow of the liquid.
