Abstract

An apparatus and a process for separating a biphasic mixture wherein one of the phases is an ionic liquid are described. According to the invention, the apparatus for separating a biphasic mixture is characterized by a) a cylindrical vessel (1), b) a feed line (2) for the biphasic mixture to be separated opening in the lower region of the cylindrical vessel (1), c) the feed line (2) being arranged and the feed rate of the biphasic mixture emerging from it being adjusted or adjustable such that the biphasic mixture emerging from the feed line (2) is conducted with a rotational speed of from at least 3 to 400 m/s against the inner wall of the cylindrical vessel (1), d) a removal line (3) arranged in the lower region of the cylindrical vessel (1), through which the ionic liquid removed can be removed from the cylindrical vessel (1) and e) a removal line (1) projecting into the cylindrical vessel (1), through which the phase freed from the ionic liquid can be removed from the cylindrical vessel (1).
