Description
CARTRIDGE IN CAPSULE RELATED APPLICATION
This application claims the benefit of India patent application serial number
443/CHE/2006, filed on March 13, 2006 for CARTRIDGE-IN-CAPSULE FOR THE PRIMARY POWDER PAINT SEPARATOR, the entire disclosure of which is fully incorporated herein by reference.
TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE [0001] This invention relates to a cartridge for the powder recover system in a primary powder paint separator for a powder spray booth. More particularly, the invention relates to a cartridge-in-capsule for the powder recovery system. This cartridge is encapsulated in its protective capsule, which is a dedicated enclosure, during the changing of colour and storage of the cartridge.
BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0002] Traditional cartridge booths require a dedicated cartridge module for each recovered colour. This provides a means of spraying powder paint with virtually no waste. It also provides a high degree of colour integrity during colour change. Yet, it is an expensive solution both in terms of the cost of equipment and in terms of the large floor space needed for the storage of the idle cartridge modules. The concept of dedicating a set of cartridges to each recovered colour while using the same cartridge module has been used in the past by many end users looking for an inexpensive solution. However, the handling of individual cartridges often leads to the cartridges getting damaged, apart from creating a mess on the shop floor due to the powder that is inevitably spilt on it.
OBJECTS OF THIS INVENTION
[0003] The primary object of this invention is to have the provision of ability to replace individual cartridges while changing the colours.
[0004] The second object of this invention is to provide mechanical protection to the cartridges during the colour change process and also when they are outside the recovery system.
[0005] The next object of this invention is to provide means of ensuring that cartridges of one colour do not get contaminated by another colour.
SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0006] Thus, according to this invention, cartridge-in-capsule for the powder recovery system in a primary powder paint separator for the powder spray booth comprises a means of enclosure for each individual cartridge to act as a protective capsule; said capsule being provided with a slide rail and locking means to slide into the frame of the powder booth to form powder recovery system; said capsule means has half of its shell portion openable in a circular movement, exposing the open surface of the cartridge to the oncoming powder stream.
[0007] According to another feature of this invention, the enclosure means are marginally larger than cartridge itself so as to slide into a frame in powder booth.
[0008] According to yet another feature of this invention, the capsule means has half of its shell portion slidably open in a circular movement.
[0009] The invention will now be described in greater detail with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein the
[0010] Fig. 1 shows the cartridge-in-capsule being slid out of the powder recovery system.
[0011] Fig. 2 shows the cartridge-in-capsule with the cover open condition.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION AND EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENTS
[0012] The invention relates to a powder spray booth unit 1 consisting of a powder recovery suction module 2 and powder spray module 3. The powder recovery suction module 2 is mounted by the side of the powder spray module 3. The cartridge-in-capsule 4 is provided with a means of enclosure for each individual cartridge to act as a protective capsule 7 in its own protective capsule while it is inside the powder booth. Because it is already within its capsule while it is being removed from the booth, the possibilities of damage to the cartridges 4 in handling and in storage are minimized. It also ensures that powder on the cartridge surface is
properly contained within a dedicated enclosure during handling and storage. Consequently neither is the powder contaminated by the external materials, nor does it itself contaminate the surroundings.
[0013] Each individual cartridge 4 is encapsulated in a capsule 7 that is just marginally larger than the cartridge itself. Several such cartridge in capsules are slid into a frame with the help of a slide rail 5 in the powder booth and locked in place, thus forming the powder recovery system. Once locked in place within the powder booth, one half of the capsule shell 6 slides open in a circular movement, exposing the cartridge to the oncoming powder stream. The shell 6 may include a flange 8 that engages the rail 5 in the fully open position.
[0014] For a colour change, the shell 6 of each capsule is first closed. Then each capsule 7 (within the cartridge inside it) is slid out of the frame (as in Figure 1). The cartridge 4 and all the powder on it, remains secure within the capsule 7. The process of removing the cartridges is quick and clean and does not expose the cartridge to any possibility of damage. The booth is then cleaned and the next set of cartridges-in-capsule is slid into the booth.
[0015] The advantages of this unit are as follows:
1. Ability to recover multiple colours with high recovery efficiency.
2. Low cost of the entire unit by virtue of the elimination of dedicated colour modules for each recovered colour.
3. Reduced floor space (as compared with a cartridge booth employing colour modules).
