Abstract

Improvements on an optical disks packaging consists of an insert cover composed by a sheet (1), preferentially a paperboard sheet designed in its longitudinal section, with a set of fold marks (2) regularly spaced, forming 'square areas', the inside area will accommodate and protect the optical disk (3) and, after folded, it becomes the package itself, and when opened, it presents an area that can be sufficiently used as a poster as well as provide information on the disk.

Description

IMPROVEMENTS ON AN OPTICAL DISKS PACKAGING
widely used for protecting disks, known by everyone, is composed by packaging for CDs, DVDs, Mini Cds, CD Roms, among other digital data media, used specially in the music and video markets. Such optical disks have to be stored and protected in packages and/or cases so that they are not damaged, scratched or dirty, avoiding compromising information recorded in these data storage medium.
Currently, the most used packages to protect optical disks in the music and video markets are manufactured in plastic, consisting of two parts - the first part is composed by a moveable cover and the second part is a disk support. In spite of complying with protective requirements, such packaging models are fragile if pressed or frequently handled, likely to have ruptures and damages, as for example, breaking its side hinges, thus compromising its useful life and presenting high production costs.
Another serious issue, with no resolution in sight, related to the optical disks aforementioned and their respective normally standardized packages, concerns 'piracy' in the CD and DVD segment, responsible for deviating great amounts from those who have rights over these products, and is also, generally, injurious for all.
Therefore, after thoroughly studying all these issues and aiming at solving the aforementioned problems, contributing to the fight against piracy, the current IMPROVEMENTS ON AN OPTICAL DISKS PACKAGING was created and developed to not only exceptionally drop packaging costs, but also to provide a wide room for displaying information about the disk, distinguishing itself from all other similar products, both in terms of manufacture and operationally. This is a versatile, practical, functional and economic package for optical disks, which can be used specially as audio and video support. Such package consists of a cover related to the artist, band, etc, manufactured in paperboard or other more appropriate materials. The cover can feature in its internal part, for instance, song lyrics from that particular artist and/or band, the artist background, photos and everything that could be part of his/her life and the outside area consists of a poster of this artist, band, etc. The package has an adequate crease, allowing the paperboard to be appropriately folded in such a manner that the internal part keeps the mentioned optical disk safe and protected.
One of the most important advantages of this type of package, apart from its low production cost, is that it is inappropriate for duplication (piracy) and becomes more difficult, considering that the pirate will have to reproduce or provide similar care to the said package in its essence, making the action, therefore, impracticable due to the packing or cover dimensions once the it is opened.
On the other hand, as the package is made of paperboard or similar material with appropriate crease and fold, it suffers no risks and/or problems of rupturing and breaks as it happens to traditional plastic packages, contributing significantly to an extended package useful life.
Plastic-coated and duly sealed, the said packaging model is ideal across the board and is extremely safe against piracy, which is relevant taking into consideration the results from incorrect copy of optical disks in general.
Therefore, in order to demonstrate in more detail the characteristics reported here related to this IMPROVEMENTS ON AN OPTICAL DISKS PACKAGING, a demonstrative example can be found attached:
FIG. 1 - it corresponds to an internal side view of the aforesaid open package, where fold marks can be seen, as well as the position of the CD, DVD or similar disk, located in one of the faces originated from such fold marks;
FIG. 2 - it shows the back area of the package, which is in fact a poster;
FIG. 3 - it shows a top view of a closed and duly sealed package; and
FIG. 4 - it presents the package in a sectional view, where plastic-coated cover can be observed, as in the previous Figure.
The IMPROVEMENTS ON AN OPTICAL DISKS
PACKAGING, reason of the current patent request, is basically and preferentially composed by a paperboard sheet (1 ) and/or similar material, designed in its longitudinal section, with a set of fold marks
(2) throughout it, resulting in a set of 'square areas', so the paperboard can be duly folded, protecting, in its center, the traditional optical disk
(3) against hits, falling, etc, which could, undoubtedly damage the disk. For commercialization and/or transportation of the packages and even for their protection, they have a plastic-coated cover (4), duly sealed in one of their side, keeping them from being violated until they reach consumers' hands.
It is important to highlight that, once the package is open, users can use the said plastic-coated cover (4) as a case to store the optical disk (3) within the package, and cases can be stored one over another.
Finally, one of the faces of the paperboard (1 ) or the package itself can have printed information about artists, bands and others, as well as lyrics, safety label, photos, history, synopsis, etc.. The opposite face can present a poster, which can be fixed in any flat surface, such as wall, door, among others, to garnish fans environment.
