Abstract
The invention concerns a method for desulfation of an internal combustion engine exhaust gas purifying catalyst comprising a nitrogen oxide accumulating component capable of being loaded with sulfates, the catalyst being heated to a minimum regenerating temperature and the gas mixture composition, at the exhaust being set, during a desulfation phase at a richness greater than 1. According to the invention, during each desulfation phase, the mixture composition is accurately adjusted to a richness very slightly greater than 1, preferably of the order of 1.01, so as to avoid or, at least reduce, the emission of foul-smelling sulfurated species.
