Abstract
This invention relates to a bioreactor, more particularly, though not exclusively, a bioreactor for use in sewage water treatment plants. The bioreactor, according to this invention, comprises at least one chamber (C) accommodating a plurality of spaced wheels (W), the wheels being rotatably mounted in juxtaposition on a central shaft (S), the wheels spanning the chamber and being partially submerged in the water to be treated; said wheels having bacteria deposited on them, the bacteria being selected to react with, and degrade, the impurities in the water, as the wheels rotate in the water in the chamber.

i) Technical Field to which the Invention relates:-
This invention relates to a bioreactor, more particularly, though not exclusively, a bioreactor for use in sewage water treatment plants.
ii) Background Art of the Invention:-
In sewage water treatment plants a stage is reached when, particularly, after clarification of the water, at the primary stage, the water is required to be further treated in the course of purification. An object of this invention is to propose a bioreactor, which achieves this object. It is also an object of this invention to propose a bioreactor which is compact and efficient, so that the bioreactor is space saving and highly result oriented.
Hi) Disclosure of the Invention:-
The bioreactor, according to this invention, comprises at least one chamber accommodating a plurality of spaced wheels, the wheels being rotatably mounted in juxtaposition on a central shaft, the wheels spanning the chamber and being partially submerged in the water to be treated; said wheels having bacteria deposited on them, the bacteria being selected to react with, and degrade, the impurities in the water, as the wheels rotate in the water in the chamber.
iv) Description of Invention with reference to drawings
This invention will now be described with reference to the single Figure in the accompanying drawings which illustrates, by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of possible embodiments of the bioreactor proposed herein.
At least one chamber C accommodates a plurality of spaced wheels W, the wheels being rotatably mounted in juxtaposition, on a central shaft S, the wheels spanning the chamber and being partially submerged in the water to be treated.
The wheels W have bacteria deposited on them, said bacteria being selected to react with, and degrade, the impurities in the water, as the wheels rotate in the water in the chamber. The precise nature of the bacteria will be determined by the nature of the impurities in the water to be treated.
The chamber C will have supports R and a curved base D to cooperate with the curvature of the wheels W.
The wheels W are provided with a web like surface T for receiving and carrying bacteria.
It will be appreciated that various other embodiments of this invention are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this invention.
Claims
1. A bioreactor comprising at least one chamber accommodating a plurality of spaced wheels, the wheels being rotatably mounted in juxtaposition on a central shaft, the wheels spanning the chamber and being partially submerged in the water to be treated; said wheels having bacteria deposited on them, the bacteria being selected to react with, and degrade, the impurities in the water, as the wheels rotate in the water in the chamber.
2. A bioreactor as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the chamber has a curved base cooperating with the curvature of the wheels.
3. A bioreactor as claimed in any one of the preceding Claims wherein the wheels are provided with a web like surface on which bacteria is deposited.
4. A bioreactor substantially as herein described and illustrated with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
