Abstract
A method of analysing route information relating to routes in a communications network is disclosed. The method comprises receiving information specifying first and second routes; and determining a diversity score for the first and second routes, the diversity score specifying the degree of diversity between the first and second routes according to a diversity criterion. The method can be used for the design of protected circuits. Also disclosed is a method of designing a network circuit for a telecommunications network using a first model of the telecommunications network defining network nodes and connections between network nodes, and a second model defining node groups, each representing a plurality of network nodes of the first network model, and interconnections between node groups, each representing connectivity between node groups in the first network model.
