Abstract

An image intensified charge-coupled device (MCCD) camera system (10) for observing corona includes a conventional camera 16 and an MCCD camera (18) which are mounted on a central base (22) in superimposed arrangement. They are optically co-axially aligned via a beam splitter (26) and a reflector (28). The system (10) includes a filter (30), comprising a peripheral frame 30.1 and a filter element 30.2, which, in combination with other elements, passes electromagnetic waves between 240 nm and 280 nm and blocks out electromagnetic waves outside of said wave band. The filter (30) is selectively, replaceably, pivotal between an operative (daylight) position against a lens of the MCCD camera (18), and a dormant (night-time) position outside of the optical path.
