Abstract

A dynamically functional multi-channel OADM (optical add/drop multiplexer) for a fibre-optic communication system provided with 2N wavelength-division multiplexing channels, wherein N is an integer ≥2, at a wavelength shifting Δν0 between adjacent channels, for the input/output of 2M channels, wherein M is an integer and 1≤M<N, and having an entry port, an exit port, 2M of output ports and 2M of input ports comprises a controllable optical multiplexer input/output (91-1) for outputting the 2M channels in one output port (Drop) and for inputting 2M of new channels on the carrying frequencies of the outputted channels into one input port (Add), an optical demultiplexer (91-2) of a 1x2M configuration connected by the entry port thereof (Σ Demux) to the output port (Drop) of said controllable optical multiplexer input/output (91-1), an optical multiplexer (91-3) of a 2Mx1 configuration connected by the exit port (ΣMux) to the input port (Add) of said controllable optical multiplexer input/output (91-1) and a controller (98). The inventive device can be used for DWDM (Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) and CWDM (Coarse Wavelength-Division Multiplexing) systems in the form of a multi-channel controllable and reconfigurable optical input/output multiplexer.
