Description
Description
DISTRIBUTED PROFILE SERVICE PROVIDING SYSTEM AND
METHOD THEREOF
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a distributed profile service providing system and a method thereof. More particularly, the present invention relates to a system for unified management of profile databases that have been individually managed by each service provider server to thereby provide optimal service to users without regarding whether the user has registered with a specific service provider service. Background Art
[2] Conventionally, profiles are managed by each service provider server.
[3] Therefore, a user has to register with each service provider server in order to use services of the service provider server. In addition, the user has to select services that are unilaterally provided by a service provider server.
[4] Further, since the service provider server can provide services only to a registered user, many and unspecified users are not able to use the services.
[5] Therefore, the conventional profile management technique is incapable of satisfying various users' needs and of managing various services and massive data in the next- generation communication network.
[6] As a prior art related to the profile management technique, Korean Patent No.
2000-24416 (entitled "Method and apparatus for providing the profile service in IMP- 2000 mobile communication system," filed on May 8, 2000) has been disclosed. This prior art particularly relates to a method for verifying identity or a subscriber anytime and anywhere by using a profile service system server that resides on an IMT-2000 network, and an apparatus using the same.
[7] According to the previously described Korean Patent No. 2000-24416, a profile request of an IMT-2000 subscriber is stored in a database after the IMT-200 subscriber is registered with a profile service provider server. When there is a profile request from the IMT-2000 subscriber, the corresponding profile information is extracted from the database and then provided to the IMT-2000 subscriber.
[8] In addition, there have been disclosed various prior arts which are related to profile management techniques, such as a profile writing-related method, a profile classification-related method, a profile collection-related method, a profile transmissio n- related method, and a method related to an efficient use of profiles, etc.
[9] However, since a profile of a user is still managed by a server of a service provider with which the subscriber is registered, the user has to register a profile of the user to a
server of a service provider when the user want to use services from the corresponding service provider. Also, a service provider server is allowed to offer services only to a registered user.
[10] The above information disclosed in this Background section is only for enhancement of understanding of the background of the invention and therefore it may contain information that does not form the prior art that is already known in this country to a person of ordinary skill in the art.
Disclosure of Invention Technical Problem
[11] The present invention has been made in an effort to provide a distributed profile service providing system for unified management of profiles respectively stored in a profile database of each service provider server by using location information on each profile database, and a method thereof. Technical Solution
[12] An exemplary distributed profile service providing system according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a profile location database, an interface unit, a profile manager, and a conversion manager. The profile location database stores location information on a profile database of each service provider server. The interface unit communicates with a first service provider server and performs access and authorization processes. The profile manager receives profile request information from the first service provider server through the interface unit, searches for location information on the corresponding profile through the profile location database, and receives a profile from a second service provider server that corresponds to the searched location information. The conversion manager converts the profile transmitted from the profile manager into an appropriate form for the first service provider server than has requested the profile, and transmits the converted profile to the first service provider server.
[13] An exemplary distributed profile service providing method according to another embodiment of the present invention includes (a) receiving profile request information from a first service provider server; (b) searching for location information on a requested profile by analyzing the profile request information; (c) receiving the corresponding profile from a second service provider server that corresponds to the searched location information; and (d) converting the received profile into an appropriate form for the first service provider server and transmits the converted profile to the first service provider server. Advantageous Effects
[14] With the above-described configuration, profiles stored in a profile database of each
service provider server can be unified by using location information of each profile database, thereby providing optimal service to a registered user and many and unspecified users as well.
[15] In addition, profiles are provided to the service provider server within a range that the corresponding user has allowed in order to secure user profile.
[16] In addition, the user is server with optimal services without regarding whether the user registered with a specific service provider server to thereby provide services that satisfy users' various needs and characteristics.
[17] Further, user's satisfaction can also be increased by providing services that meet the user's preference, and therefore purchasing desire will be increased to thereby bring profits to the service provider. Brief Description of the Drawings

As those skilled in the art would realize, the described embodiments may be modified in various different ways, all without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention. The drawings and description are to be regarded as illustrative in nature and not restrictive, and like reference numerals designate like elements throughout the specification.
[25] Throughout this specification and the claims which follow, unless explicitly described to the contrary, the word "comprise" or variations such as "comprises" or "comprising" will be understood to imply the inclusion of stated elements but not the exclusion of any other elements. In addition, throughout this specification and the
claims which follow, a module means a unit that performs a specific function or operation, and can be realized by hardware or software, or a combination of both.
[26] A distributed profile service providing system and a method thereof will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[27] FlG. 1 is a schematic view of a distributed profile service according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[28] As shown in FlG. 1, the concept of the distributed profile service is to integrally manage user profiles by using location information of each profile database installed in a server of each service provider 200 in a different service provider network.
[29] The distributed profile service includes a user terminal 100, a service provider server 200, and a distributed profile service providing system 300.
[30] A user requests services or uses requested services by using the user terminal 100.
[31] The service provider server 200 stores user' s registration information in a profile database for providing services. At this time, the service provider server 200 manages information on users who have registered therewith. When needing information on an unregistered user, the service provider server 200 may request the corresponding information from the distributed profile service providing system 300. However, the service provider server 300 can request user information only within a range allowed by the user.
[32] The distributed profile service providing system 300 stores a location of a profile database installed in each service provider server 200. When receiving a profile request from the service provider server 200, the profile service providing system 300 obtains the requested profile by searching for the corresponding profile location information, and provides the requested profile.
[33] FlG. 2 is a schematic diagram of a distributed profile service providing system according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, and particularly, shows a detailed configuration of the distributed profile service providing system 300 of FlG. 1. FlG. 2 also shows correlation between the distribution profile service providing system 300 and the service provider server 202.
[34] As shown in FlG. 2, the distributed profile service providing system 300 includes a profile location database 310, an interface unit 320, a profile manager 320, and a conversion manager 340.
[35] The profile location database 310 stores address information of a profile database installed to each service provider server 200.
[36] As a communication device for interfacing with the service provider server 100, the interface 320 performs access and authorization processes for the service provider server 200. Herein, the service provider server 200 is a server that has requested a user's profile.
[37] When the access and authorization processes are performed, a service identifier
(ID) and a password are used, the service ID and the password being assigned to the service provider server 200 when registering with the distributed profile service providing system 300. That is, the distributed profile service providing system 300 requests the service ID and the password from the service provider server 200 to verify whether the service provider server 200 is a registered service provider server or is registered as a cooperative service provider server, and then grants the access to the service provider server 200.
[38] As a core unit of the distributed profile service providing system 300, the profile manager 330 searches profile location information, requests a profile from the corresponding service provider server, and receives a requested profile from the corresponding service provider server. That is, the profile manager 330 starts searching for location information on the corresponding profile through the profile data 310 when profile request information is transmitted through the interface 320.
[39] At this time, a location of the profile is searched by analyzing the profile request information. The profile request information includes a user ID, a service ID, and a service provider ID. Then the profile manager 330 requests access from the service provider server 200 in which the requested profile is located by using the searching result. When the access to the service provider server 200 is established, the profile manager 330 requests and receives the corresponding profile. Then the received profile is delivered to the conversion manager 340.
[40] The conversion manager 340 re- writes or converts the profile into a profile that is adapted for the service provider server 200 that has requested the profile. That is, the profile delivered from the profile manager 330 is rewritten into a standardized form of the distributed profile service providing system. The rewritten profile is converted into an appropriate form for the service provider server that has requested the profile.
[41] FlG. 3 shows a detailed configuration of the profile manager according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, and particularly, shows the relationship between the profile manager 200 of FlG. 2 and respective constituent elements of the distributed profile service providing system 300.
[42] As shown in FlG. 3, the profile manager 330 includes a profile request analysis module 332, a profile location search module 334, a profile obtain module 336, and a profile conversion control module 338.
[43] The profile request analysis module 332 analyzes profile request information received through the interface unit 320. At this time, the profile request information includes a user ID, a service ID, and a service provider ID.
[44] The profile location search module 334 searches for location information on the corresponding profile through the profile database 310 based on the analysis result of
the profile request analysis module 322. That is, the profile location search module 334 uses a user ID, a service ID, and a service provider ID included in the profile request information for searching a location of the corresponding profile.
[45] The profile obtain module 336 accesses to the location that the profile location search module 334 has searched and obtains the corresponding profile. That is, the profile obtain module 336 requests access to a service provider server located in the searched location, performs access and authorization processes, and receives the corresponding profile.
[46] The profile conversion control module 338 delivers the profile received at the profile obtain module 336 to the conversion manager 340, receives a profile that has been adapted by the conversion manager 340, and transmits the received profile to the service provider server that has requested the profile.
[47] FlG. 4 shows a detailed configuration of the conversion manager according to the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, and particularly, shows a relationship between the conversion manager 340 of FlG. 2 and respective constituent elements of the profile manager 330.
[48] As shown in FlG. 4, the conversion manager 340 includes a profile classification module 342, a profile analysis module 344, a profile rewriting module 346, and a profile conversion module 348.
[49] The profile classification module 342 classifies the profile transmitted from the profile manager 330 based on a predetermined reference. At this time, the profile may be classified into forms of profiles.
[50] The profile analysis module 344 analyzes the profile classified by the profile classification module 342 in order to rewrite it into a standardized profile. At this time, the profile request information that has been received at the profile manager may be used for the analysis.
[51] The profile rewriting module 346 rewrites the profile in a standardized form based on the analysis result of the profile analysis module 344.
[52] The profile conversion module 348 converts the rewritten profile into an appropriate form for the service provider server that has requested the profile and transmits the converted profile to the profile manager 330. The converted profile is called an adapted profile. That is, various forms of profiles of each service provider server are converted into an adapted profile and then offered.
[53] FlG. 5 is a flowchart of a distributed profile service providing process according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[54] As shown in FlG. 5, the user terminal 100 requests a service from a specific service provider server 200 in step SlOl. Then the service provider server 200 searches for a profile through its profile database to provide the requested service in step S 103, and
checks whether the profile is stored in the profile database in step S 105.
[55] When a result of the checking in the step S 105 shows that the profile is stored in the database, the service provider server 200 offers an appropriate service by using profile information in step S 107.
[56] When the result of the checking in the step S 105 shows that the profile is not stored in the database, the service provider server 200 requests access to the distributed profile service providing system in step S 109.
[57] Then, the distributed profile service providing system 300 authorizes the service provider server 200 that has requested the access in step Sl 11. At this time, an identifier (ID) and a password of the service provider server 200 are used for the authorization, wherein the ID and the password are assigned to the service provider server 200 when registering with the distributed profile service providing system 300.
[58] When the authorization of the step Sill has succeeded, the distributed profile service providing system 300 grants the service provider server 200 the access in step S113.
[59] Then, the service provider server 200 requests profile information in a predetermined form from the distributed profile service providing system 300 in step S115.
[60] The distributed profile service providing system 300 searches location information on the requested profile, accesses the corresponding location, and obtains the requested profile. The obtained profile is converted into an appropriate form for the service provider that has requested the profile in step Sl 17. The conversion of the step Sl 17 will be described in more detail later with reference to FlG. 6.
[61] Subsequently, the distributed profile service providing system 300 provides the profile converted in the step Sl 17 to the service provider server 200 in step Sl 19.
[62] Then, the service provider server 200 adapts a service to the profile provided in the step Sl 19, and provides the adapted service to the user terminal 100 that has requested the service in step S 123.
[63] FlG. 6 is a flowchart of a distributed profile service proving process, and particularly, shows an internal process of a distributed profile service providing system according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
[64] As shown in FlG. 6, the interface unit 320 receives profile request information from the service provider server 200 and transmits the profile request information to the profile manager in step S210. The profile request information includes a user ID, a service ID, and a service provider ID.
[65] The profile manager 330 searches for location information on the corresponding profile through a profile location database in step S203.
[66] The profile manager 330 requests access and authorization from the corresponding
service provider server 200' by using the searched location information of the step
S203, in step S205. [67] After authorizing the profile manager 330 in step S207, the service provider server
200' grants access to the profile manager 330 in step S209. [68] Then, the profile manager 330 requests a profile in step S211.
[69] Upon the profile request, the service provider server 200' provides the requested profile in step S213. At this time, a disclosure level of the profile is allowed only within a user permitted range. [70] However, since the profile provided in the step S213 may not be in an appropriate form for the service provider server 200, the profile is converted appropriately by using the conversion manager 340. [71] Therefore, the profile manager 330 transmits the profile request provided in the step
S213 and the profile request information received in the step S213 to the conversion manager 340 in step S215. At this time, the profile request information includes a service ID and a service provider ID. [72] Then, the conversion manager 340 converts the profile transmitted in the step S215 by using the profile request information in step S217. The following description shows a detailed process of the conversion. The profile transmitted in the step S215 is classified into a form of the profile. Then the classified profile is analyzed in order to be rewritten into a standardized profile. At this time, the profile request information may be used for the analysis. [73] An appropriate profile form to which the profile is to be converted may be determined by checking the service ID and the service provider ID included in the profile request information. The analyzed profile is rewritten into a standardized profile, and the rewritten profile is converted into a form that is appropriate for the service provider server 200. [74] Subsequently, the conversion manager 340 provides the converted profile, that is, the adapted profile to the profile manager 330 in step S219. [75] The profile manager 330 provides the adapted profile to the interface unit 320 in step S221. The adapted profile is transmitted to the service provider server 200 through the interface unit 320. [76] The above-described exemplary embodiment of the present invention may be realized by an apparatus and a method, but it may also be realized by a program that realizes functions corresponding to configurations of the exemplary embodiment or a recording medium that records the program. Such realization can be easily performed by a person skilled in the art. [77] While this invention has been described in connection with what is presently considered to be practical exemplary embodiments, it is to be understood that the
invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments, but, on the contrary, is intended to cover various modifications and equivalent arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
