Description

Description A WATER HEATER
[ 1 ] Field of the Invention
[2] The present invention relates to providing an antifreeze safety in water heaters.
[3] Background of the Invention
[4] In the state of the art, there are provided systems which protect the system in water heating systems against freezing by the temperature sensor detecting the low temperature and thereby activating the ignition system within a certain period of time and/or by activating the pump with the purpose of ensuring water circulation.
[5] The European Patent Application no. EP0569741, one of the applications within the state of the art, describes a system which provides protection against freezing without a sensor for the outside ambient temperature. Within the system disclosed in the said document, the temperature characteristic of the system is determined by the temperature sensor within the period for which the circulation pump is switched on and the ignition is switched on when the system temperature falls below the threshold value.
[6] In another application, which is the Japanese patent application no. JP9318085, a water heater, which switches on the burner and the pump in accordance with the outside ambient temperature, is disclosed. The said heater comprises a sensor for detecting outside ambient temperature and ensures that the burner is kept effecting only a weak burning so as to prevent freezing of the water in case temperature falls to a specified level, and the circulation of the pump.
[7] In the other related patent applications no. EPl 254990 and NL9002277, antifreeze safety is provided in systems by the help of a pump which is switched on followed by the fall of the temperature below a certain degree in water heaters.
[8] However in the applications known in the art, the fact that the igniter and the pump switching on for a specific period of time to protect the system every time the temperature falls below a certain level causes the ignition to take place at frequent intervals and leads to unnecessary energy consumption.
[9] Furthermore, in the applications within the state of the art, the burner is not sufficient to protect the system against freezing all by itself. Therefore a pump is employed in the system. Use of pumps in antifreeze safety systems, increases the number and cost of parts employed.
[ 10] Summary of the Invention
[11] The objective of the present invention is to obtain a water heater that provides anti freeze safety.
[12] Another objective of the present invention is to obtain a water heater which provides anti freeze safety, while providing cost and energy saving by avoiding unnecessary burning via switching off the burner for a specific period of time after switching it on for a certain period of time below a certain temperature.
[13] Detailed Description of the Invention
[14] The water heater realized to fulfill the objectives of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which;
[15] Figure 1 is the front view of the water heater.
[16] Figure 2 is the side view of the water heater.
[17] The parts in the figures are numbered individually where the numbers refer to the following:
[18] 1. Water heater
[19] 2. Electronic control board
[20] 3. Temperature sensor
[21] 4. Ignition electrode
[22] 5. Gas valve
[23] 6. Burner
[24] 7. Ionization electrode
[25] 8. Heat Exchanger
[26] The inventive water heater (1) essentially comprises a temperature sensor (3) detecting the temperature of the system water, an heat exchanger (8), an ignition electrode (4) which is controlled by an electronic control board (2) and ignites the burner (6), a gas valve (5) which is controlled by an electronic control board (2) and supplies gas to the system, a burner (6) which protects the system against freezing by switching on at specific periods, and an ionization electrode (7) which transmits the information related to the formation of the flame upon the ignition of the burner (6) to the electronic control board (2) and ensures maintenance of the burning,
[27] and is characterized by an electronic control board (2) which enables the burner (6) to switch on every 20 minutes when the temperature of the system is detected as 6°C or lower and to continue burning for 7 seconds.
[28] The electronic control board (2) determines the duration and the time intervals that the system will operate. When the domestic water temperature, which is determined in the electronic control board (2) to be 6°C, is detected by the temperature sensor (3) as 6°C or lower, the gas valve (5) and the ignition electrodes (4) are switched on by the electronic control board (2) and the burner (6) is ignited. During ignition, the ionization electrode (7) transmits the information related to the formation of the flame to the electronic control board (2). This way, the burner (6) is switched on in the minimum flame level. The burner (6) is operated in the minimum flame level for 7 seconds and afterwards it is switched off. [29] Subsequently, the waiting period specified on the electronic board (2) as 20 minutes is effected. If the temperature sensor (3) detects the domestic water temperature below 6°C upon completion of the 20 minute waiting period, the burner (6) lights again for 7 seconds in the minimum flame level. The system switches on the antifreeze safety every 20 minutes according to the information coming from the system temperature sensor (3). When the temperature sensor (3) detects the domestic water temperature as 7°C during the burning of the burner (6) (within the 7 seconds), the burner (6) is switched off and it operates according to the information received from the temperature sensor (3) after 20 minutes. This way, needless ignition is avoided, preventing unnecessary energy consumption, and water boiling that may result in the heat exchanger (8).
