Abstract

The invention relates to electrolytic cells used for producing aluminum. The lateral walls (8) of the cell, which surround its crucible (4, 4') are comprised, on at least a fraction of their height and/or their thickness, of a porous material part (13) capable of permitting the circulation of a heat transfer gas, the porous material part (13) being connected to inlet (15) and outlet means (16) of the heat transfer gas whereby constituting a heat exchanger that recovers the heat energy lost on the sides of the cell.
