Definitions
- the invention relates to a filter element for cleaning the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 1 and a soot filter with a filter element according to the independent claim 8.
- Such filter elements are used for example as a soot filter for diesel internal combustion engines.
- the filter elements often consist of a ceramic material and have a plurality of mutually parallel inlet channels and outlet channels.
- Filter elements made of ceramic materials are produced by extrusion. This means that the blank of the filter element is a prismatic body with a plurality of mutually parallel channels. The channels of a blank are initially open at both ends.
- Filter element closed, while another group of channels are closed at the front end of the filter element.
- two groups of channels are formed, namely the so-called inlet channels, which are closed at the rear end and the so-called outlet channels, which are closed at the beginning of the filter element.
- the invention has for its object to provide a filter element and a soot filter, in which the local accumulation of soot deposits, in particular in the interior of the filter element avoided, but at least reduced.
- Inlet channels which are arranged on the inside of the filter element, larger than in the outside of the filter element arranged inlet channels.
- An embodiment of the filter element according to the invention provides that the cross-sectional areas of the inlet ducts in the interior of the filter element are geometrically similar to the cross-sectional areas of the inlet ducts arranged at the periphery of the filter element and that the cross-sectional areas of the inlet ducts in the interior of the filter Filter element are smaller than the cross-sectional area of the arranged at the periphery of the filter element inlet channels.
- Cross section of the filter element may be particularly advantageous if the filter element is cylindrical and rotationally symmetrical.
- the cross-sectional areas of the inlet channels in the interior of the filter element can have a different geometry than the cross-sectional area of the inlet channels arranged at the periphery of the filter element.
- the effect according to the invention can be focused better on a specific partial area in the interior of the filter element.
- the inner region of a filter element according to the invention is dimensioned such that its dimensions correspond to those of the feed line.
- the inventive design of the inlet channels is not limited to certain geometry of inlet channels, but is in principle applicable to many geometries of entrance channels.
- the invention is particularly advantageous in entrance channels with square, rectangular, hexagonal or cross-shaped cross-section.
- the filter element is rotationally symmetrical or centrally symmetrical with respect to its longitudinal axis.
- Figure 2 is an exemplary embodiment of an inventive
- Filter element in a view from the front and Figure 3 shows a section of a cross section through another inventive filter element.
- Figure 1 illustrates a soot filter 1 with a feed line 3, a diffuser 5, a housing 7 and a filter element 9 according to the invention in a partially sectioned side view.
- the soot filter 1 flows through in the direction of the arrows 11.
- the housing 7 is adjoined by a cone 13 and a discharge line 15.
- the filter element 9 is gas-tightly connected to the housing so that the exhaust gas (not shown) flowing through the supply line 3 has to flow through the filter element 9.
- the filter element 9 has an inlet surface 17 and an outlet surface 19.
- the filter element 19 is crossed by a plurality of channels which extend from the inlet surface 17 to the outlet surface 19.
- the inlet channels 21 are open at the inlet surface 17 and closed at the outlet surface 19.
- the so-called outlet channels 23 are closed at the inlet surface 17 and open at the outlet surface 19.
- the closures of the inlet channel 21 and the outlet channel 23 are shown in Figure 1 as black areas without reference numerals.
- FIG. 2 shows a cross section through an exemplary embodiment of a filter element 9 according to the invention.
- FIG. 2 shows a cross section through a first exemplary embodiment of a filter element 9 according to the invention with a square cross section.
- inlet channels 21 and outlet channels 23 alternate.
- the inlet channel 21 and the outlet channel 23 have the shape of a square in the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG.
- inlet channel and outlet channels 23 have a square cross-section with the edge length B.
- the inlet channels 21 arranged further outward and the outlet channels 23 arranged further outside have a square cross-section with the edge length 2B.
- FIG. 3 shows a partial embodiment of a second exemplary embodiment of a filter element according to the invention. Shown is only the inner region of the filter element.
- the inlet channels 21 have the shape of a cross.
- one of these cross-shaped cross-sectional areas is shown hatched in FIG.
- the associated outlet channels 23 have a square cross-section.
- Inlet channel 21 and the outlet channel 23 have different geometries.
- the ratio between the circumference U and the cross-sectional area A of the inlet channel is again significantly increased compared with the example according to FIG. 2, so that in this geometry the accumulation of soot in the middle of the filter element is even more strongly suppressed becomes.
- the outer regions, not shown, of this filter element 9 can be designed, as in the first exemplary embodiment, with square cross sections of both the inlet channels 21 and the outlet channels 23.
