Description
A wheel, particularly a spoked wheel
DESCRIPTION Technical field of the invention
The subject of the invention is a wheel, particularly a spoked wheel, including a rim having an outer wall surface facing the axis and defined between opposed shoulders of the rim. Background Art
Wheels of the aforesaid type are widely used in the motorcycle field. The same Applicant has recently developed wheels in which significant portions of the outer wall surface are provided with contrasting colouring with respect to the background. These wheels have a purely decorative purpose. The aesthetic effect sought is essentially the dynamic effect in which the coloured section of the rim is perceived, without identifying it. Disclosure of the invention
The aim of the invention is that of providing a wheel in which, in addition to increasing the decorative effect, both static and dynamic, a second, substantially dynamic, effect is perceptible, capable of improving the advertising effect of the means on which the wheel is mounted. These and other aims, which will become clearer hereinafter, are achieved by a wheel produced in accordance with the following claims. Brief description of the drawings
The characteristics and advantages of the invention are illustrated with reference to a preferred exemplary embodiment thereof, described with reference to the appended drawings, in which :
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wheel detail according to the
invention;
- Figure 2 is a view in elevation of the detail of Figure 1. Best mode for carrying out the invention
In the drawings, the reference 1 indicates as a whole a wheel rim having a channel 2, intended to receive in a manner which is conventional per se a tyre which is not shown, and an opposed outer wall surface 3 facing the axis of the wheel. The channel and the outer wall surface are bounded by opposed shoulders 4, and a central depression 5 of smaller diameter than the remaining parts of the rim 1 is provided in which a plurality of holes 6 are open, intended to receive corresponding anchorage means (such as nipples and/or heads not shown since they are conventional p_er se) of the respective spokes.
The outer wall surface 3 of the rim 1, on a portion preferably extending for at least a quarter, but in any case less than the whole, of the circumferential extent of the surface itself, has a finite sequence of symbols 7 such as alphanumeric characters intended, as a whole, to compose a distinctive sign such as a brand name, in the present example the trademark of the same Applicant, followed by the word "TUBELESS".
According to the invention, a finite sequence of symbols is used in a colour contrasting with the background colour of the outer wall surface 3, for example white on black, or a colour on a metallic background.
The symbols of such sequence, or at least part of these, extend axially in the circumferential portion for the entire axial width thereof and completely involve, for the part in question, the axial extent of the central depression 5. In this way, the distinctive sign is recognisable also at a
substantially lateral view of the rim.
With the aforesaid expedients the result is obtained that, when the wheel is static, at least part of the distinctive sign is always in view. On a dynamic plane, while the wheel is rotating, an effect is obtained which is at least equal to that offered by the wheels with rims having coloured sections. Moreover, it is possible to benefit from the stroboscopic optical effect so that, at specific rotation speeds, the wheel appears almost at a standstill, making it possible to identify at least in part the sequence of symbols borne thereon. The symbols may also include different designs, such as flags, flames and similar.
Claims
1. A wheel, particularly a spoked wheel, including a rim (1) having an outer wall surface (3) facing the axis of the wheel and defined between opposed shoulders (4) of the rim, characterized in that it comprises, on a circumferential portion of said outer wall surface, a finite sequence of symbols (7) such as alphanumeric characters provided in a colour contrasting with the colour of the outer wall surface.
2. A wheel according to claim 1, wherein said circumferential portion of outer wall surface (3) affected by said sequence extends for at least a quarter of the total circumferential extent of the outer wall surface.
3. A wheel according to claim 2, wherein said circumferential portion of outer wall surface (3) affected by said sequence extends for a circumferential extent which is less than the total circumferential extent of the outer wall surface.
4. A wheel according to one or more of claims 1 to 3, wherein at least part of the symbols (7) of said sequence extends axially in said circumferential portion for the entire axial width of said portion between said shoulders (4).
5. A wheel according to claim 4, wherein said outer wall surface (3) comprises a central depression (5) of lesser diameter affected by the corresponding circumferential portion of said sequence of symbols (7).
6. A wheel according to one or more of the preceding claims, wherein said sequence of symbols (7) or at least part thereof, represents as a whole a distinctive sign such as a brand name.
