Patent 5,136,244 assigned to the same assignee as the present application and hereby incorporated by reference provides a shoulder local coil using opposed "paddles" each holding a coil that can be fit to the front and back of a patient's shoulder through a mechanically adjustable joint. The rigid construction ensures minimal movement of this coil during the imaging process.

Abstract
L'invention porte sur une bobine locale d'imagerie de l'épaule par IRM présentant une enveloppe cupuliforme comportant des éléments rigides qui entourent l'épaule en se courbant autour de l'épaule le long de deux axes. Lesdits éléments rigides peuvent pivoter l'un par rapport à l'autre pour faciliter la mise en place de l'enveloppe autour de l'épaule et s'adapter à la taille des différents patients.
