Abstract

The present invention refers to a constructive disposition in a rear airfoil to be applied in public transport vehicles equipped with lights on the rear windshield. The rear airfoil disposition for public transport vehicles is made up with external supports (1) which maintain the elongated body (2) at a small distance from the vehicle, at the back of which lamps (3) are mounted to provide downwards lighting all along the rear upper part of the public transport vehicle. The external face of the airfoil body is preferably convex, thereby creating a compartment on the internal surface where a line of lamps (3) is to be mounted.

Description

"LIGHTED REAR AIRFOIL FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT VEHICLES"
This invention refers to an innovative constructive disposition introduced in a rear airfoil to be applied in public transport vehicles equipped with lights on the rear windshield.
It is a known fact that large cities are constantly trying to find solutions for the inhabitants using the problematic public transportation. The most traditional means of public land transportation are: buses, trains, the subway, and taxis. More recently, some cities have implemented microbus lines, also known as "vans" or "minivans".
Moreover, it is also a well-known fact that urban spaces are increasingly more used to release advertising announcements. Before, those spaces were limited to billboards; however, nowadays any space such as walls, facades, the top of buildings, the side of taxis, buses, the subway and trains are used for advertising announcements.
For this purpose, the rear windshield of buses and microbuses has become a substantial means of advertising both because of its large space and because of the fact that it is mobile. The advertisements made on buses have transformed into a very popular form of outdoor all over the world through the use of adhesives or panels that are fixed onto the back and/or sides of the vehicles.
Nevertheless, at night and in dim places deprived of public lighting, the messages placed at the back of public transport vehicles are not so visible and thereby not so enhanced.
To overcome this limitation, larger urban centers have been using lighted boards of the "back-light" type that are fixed to the public transport vehicle. But this type of panel requires a large space to be covered with transparent material, on which the advertising message is then applied, as well as a high number of lamps to keep the entire message lit. In addition, the vehicles are subjected to tremors and shocks, thereby affecting the panels' useful life. Therefore, the objective of this invention , is to provide an innovative constructive disposition to be introduced in a rear airfoil that can be used in public transport vehicles equipped with lights on the rear windshield. The airfoil is made up with end supports that maintain the elongated body fixed at a small distance from the vehicle, and whose back surface have lamps so that the lighting is projected all along the rear upper part of the public transport vehicle.
Preferably, the external face of the airfoil body will be convex, thereby creating a compartment on the internal surface where the lamps are to be mounted, these being preferably of the fluorescent type. The new constructive disposition introduced in a rear airfoil to be applied in public transport vehicles which is proposed in this invention furthers the following advantages compared to the "back light" systems that have been used for the same purpose up to the present day:
- it is a "front light" type of system which uses one single line of lamps that light up the whole rear upper part of the public transport vehicle;
- it offers a large surface on the rear windshield of the public transport vehicle, and so transparent screen panels are no longer required;
- it uses a small amount of lamps;
- it does not dazzle the driver at the back; - it is highly resistant, of a long useful life and requires less maintenance;
- it enhances the esthetics of the vehicle.
The rear airfoil disposition for public transport vehicles presented in this invention could be better understood by the following detailed description, based on the appended drawings that are listed below: Figure 1 - side view of the airfoil;
Figure 2 - front view of the airfoil;
Figure 3 - rear view of the airfoil;
Figure 4 - upper view of the airfoil;
Figure 5 - lower view of the airfoil; Figure 6 - side view airfoil cross-section;
Figure 7 - side view of an airfoil constructive option;
Figure 8 - front view of the airfoil constructive option;
Figure 9 - rear view of the airfoil constructive option;
Figure 10 - upper view of the airfoil constructive option; Figure 11 - lower view of the airfoil constructive option;
Figure 12 - side view cross-section of the airfoil constructive option.
The Figures 1 to 6 illustrate the constructive disposition of a rear airfoil for public transport vehicles that is made up with end supports (1) that maintain the elongated body (2) fixed at a small distance from the vehicle, on which a line of lamps (3) is mounted on the back part to provide downwards lighting all along the rear upper part of the public transport vehicle.
The airfoil body will preferably have a convex external face (21) thereby allowing for a compartment (22) on the internal face, on which to mount the line of lamps (3).
Moreover, the use of fluorescent-typed lamps is recommended.
The Figures 7 to 12 illustrate a variant construction for the rear airfoil of public transport vehicles, whose body (21) is elongated and flattened, and on which a lower canoe-shaped part is fixed (4), this part having a convex surface turned outwards and a concave internal surface on which the line of lamps (3?) is to be mounted for downwards lighting all along the rear upper part of the public transport vehicle.
