Description

[DESCRIPTION] [Invention Title]
APPARATUS FOR ADJUSTING HEIGHT AND ANGLE OF LCD MONITOR
[Technical Field]
The present invention relates to an apparatus for adjusting height and an angle of a LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) monitor, more particularly to an apparatus for adjusting height and an angle of a LCD monitor suitable for a notebook computer.
[Background Art]
Nowadays a LCD monitor is often employed in a desktop computer as well as a notebook computer on account of its space-saving characteristic.
In a notebook computer, a LCD monitor is connected to a main body of the notebook computer by means of a hinge, while a LCD monitor for a desktop computer is generally coupled to a stand by a hinge.
With such an arrangement, a conventional LCD monitor for the desktop computer is only capable of pivoting back and forth within a limited angle, while being incapable of adjusting height thereof.
[Disclosure]
[Technical Problem]
Therefore, the conventional LCD monitor is disadvantageous in that it may easily cause fatigue to a user when height of LCD monitor is not appropriately leveled with height of the user's sight, which eventually leads to deteriorate efficiency of work.
[Technical Solution]
The present invention aims to solve the aforementioned drawback of the conventional LCD monitor. Therefore, it is a primary object of the present invention to provide an apparatus for adjusting height and an angle of a LCD monitor.
In order to accomplish the foregoing object, an apparatus for adjusting height and an angle of a LCD monitor according to the present invention comprises an elevating member installed to a LCD monitor, a guide member for guiding the elevating member, a position determining member for securing a position of the elevating member with respect to the guide member, and a supporting member for pivotably supporting the guide member. According to the apparatus, height of a LCD monitor can be adjusted.
In one embodiment of the apparatus for adjusting height and an angle of a LCD monitor, the elevating member is realized by an outer cylinder and the guide member is embodied by an inner cylinder, which is configured to be inserted into the outer cylinder. A cable for electrically connecting the LCD monitor and a main body passes through the inner cylinder and is then interposed in a gap formed between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder. Therefore, the cable can be concealed for neat appearance.
Moreover, the inner cylinder is preferably provided with a guiding roll, which is adapted for guiding the cable to be inverted therein.
Further, the inner cylinder comprises a first inner cylinder to be selectively inserted into the outer cylinder, a second inner cylinder to be selectively inserted into the outer cylinder, a hinge part for coupling a lower end of the first inner cylinder and an upper end of the second inner cylinder, and a third inner cylinder extending from a lower end of the second inner cylinder. The third inner cylinder is bent with respect to the second inner cylinder and pivotal Iy supported to the support member.
[Advantageous Effects]
As apparent from the foregoing description, the apparatus for adjusting height and an angle of a LCD monitor according to the present invention has advantages as follows.
First, by employing an apparatus including an elevating member installed to a LCD monitor, a guide member for guiding the elevating member, a position determining member for securing a position of the elevating member with respect to the guide member, and a supporting member for pivotably supporting the guide member, a user is able to conveniently set an angle and height of a LCD monitor in accordance with his/her physique so as to ensure appropriate distance and height between a LCD monitor and his/her eyes. Accordingly, user's fatigue significantly decreases, whereby improving efficiency of work.
Second, similarly to a notebook computer, a cable for electrically connecting a main body and a LCD monitor is concealed in such a manner that the cable is neatly arranged within the inner cylinder and a gap formed between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder, so that aesthetically pleasing appearance can be obtained.
Third, undesirous friction between the cable and the inner cylinder during adjusting operation of height can be prevented by providing a guiding roll adapted for guiding the cable to be inverted in the inner cylinder.
Fourth, the inner cylinder is composed of a first inner cylinder, a second inner cylinder, a hinge part for coupling a lower end of the first inner cylinder and an upper end of the second inner cylinder, and a third inner cylinder extending from a lower end of the second inner cylinder, which is bent with respect to the second inner cylinder and pivotal Iy connected to the support member. With such an arrangement, not only distance between a LCD monitor and a user, but also an angle of a LCD monitor can be adjusted at any desired position.
[Description of Drawings]
FIG. 1 is a rear view of a disassembled apparatus for adjusting height and an angle of a LCD monitor according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention!
FIG. 2 is a partially sectional rear view of the apparatus depicted in FIG. l;
FIG. 3 is a rear view of an apparatus according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention as height of a LCD monitor is adjusted;
FIG. 4 is a side view of an apparatus, in which variation of an angle of a LCD monitor is schematically illustrated; and
FIG. 5 is a rear view of an apparatus according to another embodiment of the present invention, in which an external cable is employed.
[Best Mode]
Hereinafter, a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
As illustrated in FIGs. 1 to 4, an apparatus for adjusting height and an angle of a LCD monitor according to the preferred embodiment includes an elevating member (3) installed to a LCD monitor (1), a guide member (5) for guiding the elevating member (3), a position determining member (23a, 23b; 25a, 25b) for securing a position of the elevating member (3) with respect to the guide member (5), and a supporting member (15) for pivotably supporting the guide member (5).
In case of a notebook computer, the elevating member (3) is desirably installed to both opposite lateral edges of the LCD monitor (1). The guide member (5) serves to guide a vertical movement of the LCD monitor (1) in cooperation with the elevating member (3).
The position determining member (23a, 23b; 25a, 25b) is adapted for fixing a vertical location of the elevating member (3) relative to the guide member (5), which is composed of bolls (23a, 23b) serving as a stop pin, and fitting holes (25a, 25b) through which the bolls (23a, 23b) are fixedly inserted. The bolls (23a, 23b) are outwardly biased by springs not shown in drawings. The bolls (23a, 23b) and the springs are built in the guide member (5). The fitting holes (25a, 25b) are formed on the elevating member (3). In such an arrangement, an adjustment of height can be initiated in such a fashion that elevating member (3) is disengaged from the guide member (5) by pushing the bolls (23a, 23b) inwardly.
In another embodiment, the position determining member may be realized by a fitting hole formed on the guide member (5) and a stopping pin installed to the elevating member (3). The stopping pin is disposed between the guide member and the elevating member, and inwardly biased by a spring. In this arrangement, the disengagement between the guide member and the elevating member for adjusting height is rendered by pulling out the stopping pin. In case of a notebook computer, the supporting member (15) is embodied by a main body (15). In case of a desktop computer, the supporting member (15) is embodied in the form of a stand. As described above, the LCD monitor (1) is height-adjustable in cooperation with the elevating member (3) that moves along the guide member (5).
The elevating member (3) and the guide member (5) are preferably embodied by an outer cylinder (3) and an inner cylinder (5), respectively. Namely, the outer cylinder (3) is configured to vertically move while encompassing the inner cylinder (5), inside which a data and/or an electric cable (19) are arranged in a concealable manner. Specifically, the cable (19) for interconnecting a connector of a main body and a connector of the LCD monitor passes through entire of the inner cylinder (5) and is then interposed in a gap formed between the inner cylinder (5) and the outer cylinder (3). Therefore, the cable (19) can be concealed for neat appearance.
It is preferable to furnish a spacer between the inner cylinder (5) and the outer cylinder (3) in order to prevent friction between the cable (19) and the cylinders during vertical movement of the outer cylinder (3). Preferably, the spacer is made of flexible material and mounted on an inner surface of the outer cylinder (3).
Further, there is provided with a guiding roll (21) that prevents damage of the cable (19), which might be caused by an upper end of the inner cylinder (5) during elevation of the elevating member (3).
Referring to FIG. 5, another embodiment of the present invention, the elevating member (3) and the guide member (5) may serve as only a height adjusting means of the LCD monitor (1) without function of cable concealing. In the embodiment, an external cable (190) is employed for interconnecting the LCD monitor (1) and a main body. This embodiment is advantageous in that the height adjustment is more readily achievable compared with the case, in which the cable is concealed inside cylinders. Further, it is possible to provide more comfortable working condition over a conventional desktop computer when a normal keyboard is coupled. The external cable (190) is preferably coil-shaped for being suitable to extend along with the elevation of the LCD monitor.
The inner cylinder (5) comprises a first inner cylinder (7) to be selectively inserted into the outer cylinder (3), a second inner cylinder (11) to be selectively inserted into the outer cylinder (3), a hinge part (9) for coupling a lower end of the first inner cylinder (7) and an upper end of the second inner cylinder (11), and a third inner cylinder (13) extending from a lower end of the second inner cylinder (11). The third inner cylinder (13) is bent with respect to the second inner cylinder (11) and pivotal Iy connected to the support member (15).
The first inner cylinder (7) and the second inner cylinder (11) mainly function as a guide member while the third inner cylinder (13) serves as a hinge shaft. Such a hinge shaft (13) is pivotal Iy engaged with a hinge bracket (17) of the main body (15). Therefore, the third inner cylinder (13) enables to vary distance between a user and the LCD monitor (1). As shown in FIG. 4, the hinge part (9) is realized by a ball joint (9) by which the LCD monitor (1) can rotate at a desired angle. The ball joint (9) consists of a socket and a ball rotatable within the socket. Further, the ball joint (9) comprises a penetrating hole, through which the cable (19) passes.
Even though in terms of space the ball joint (9) is inherently rotatable in 360 degree by virtue of the ball's characteristic, in terms of a plane such movement is partially restricted by the socket. The ball joint (9) offers a wide range of adjustable angle so that a user can freely set the position of the LCD monitor for his/her convenience. [Industrial Applicability]
The apparatus for adjusting height and an angle of a LCD monitor according to present invention is not limited by the aforementioned embodiment and it should be appreciated that various modifications can be made by a person having an ordinary skilled person in the art without departing from concept or spirit of the present invention.
