Description

Fastening piece for fastening a lighting device or part of it to light mounting holes in an electrical installation box or a building
Background of the Invention
The object of the invention is a fastening piece according to the preamble of Claim 1 for fastening a lighting device or part of it to light mounting holes in an electrical installation box or in a building, for example to light mounting holes in an interior or exterior wall or ceiling of a building or in a similar building structure.
The fastening piece that is the object of the invention is especially, but not exclusively, suitable for mounting a lighting device or part of it to a flush mounting box according to Finnish standard SFS 2283, which flush mounting box comprises two diametrically located tapped holes for fastening a lighting device to the flush mounting box. The fastening piece that is the object of the invention is also suitable for fastening a lighting device directly to the interior or exterior wall or ceiling of a building.
When fastening lighting devices to electrical installation boxes, it is known to use a separate fastening piece, which is first fastened by screws to an electrical installation box and to which the lighting device is then fastened. In addition, it is known to use such a separate fastening piece also for fastening a lighting device when the lighting device is not fastened to an electrical installation box but directly to the interior or exterior wall or ceiling of a building.
A fastening piece is known that is provided with first holes that can be used for fastening the fastening piece by screws to the tapped holes of an electrical installation box or to light fastening holes in a wall or ceiling of a building. This known fastening piece furthermore comprises second holes that can be used for fastening the lighting device to the fastening piece at pre-determined locations, for example holes or suchlike that have been made into the lighting device, by screws or similar mounting members.
This known solution entails the drawback that the lighting device can not always be fastened into the desired position for example in a ceiling or a similar part of a building. This is due to the fact that the position of the tapped holes in the electrical installation box or the mounting holes in the ceiling or wall of a building may be such that the fastening piece needs to be fastened to the electrical installation box into such a position that the lighting device then needs to be fastened to the fastening piece into an unfavourable position, for example slantwise to the room. This poses a problem especially when using elongated lights or similar rotationally unsymmetrical lighting devices, in which the position of the lighting device in respect to the room, for example, is significant. Since the electrical installation box is usually fixedly mounted to the building structure, for example embedded into the ceiling of a building, the problem can not usually be solved by turning the electrical installation box in such a way that the position of the mounting holes would become more favourable for the fastening of the lighting device. In case the light mounting holes that have been already provided in the wall or ceiling of a building are unsuitably positioned or if the light mounting holes made in connection with the light fastening operation are made into an incorrect position, the problem can be solved by drilling new mounting holes, but this requires extra work.
Brief Description of the Invention
The object of the invention is to solve the above-mentioned problem.
The object of the invention can be achieved by a fastening piece characterized by the features defined in the independent claim 1.
Preferred embodiments of the fastening device according to the invention are set forth in the dependent claims.
The invention is based on the division of the fastening piece into at least two fastening piece parts, which have been rotationally connected to each other; into a first fastening piece part comprising first fastening members for fastening the fastening piece to light mounting holes located in an electrical installation box or a building, and into another fastening piece part comprising second fastening members for fastening lighting device or part of it to the fastening piece. The fastening piece according to the invention is preferably, but not necessarily, formed as a separate part from the lighting device, and its specific function is to serve as a fastening member for the lighting device as it is being fastened to an electrical installation box, building or a similar structure.
Since the first fastening piece part is rotationally connected to the second fastening piece part, the relative positioning and location of the first and second mounting members to each other may be altered by turning the second fastening piece part relative to the first fastening piece part, hi this manner, it becomes possible to change the swivelling position of the second mounting members in respect to the electrical installation box or the ceiling or wall of a building after the fastening piece has been fastened to place. The solution according to the invention makes it possible to fasten the lighting device into the desired swivelling position irrespective of the swivelling position of the tapped holes of the electrical installation box or the positioning of the light mounting holes in the ceiling or wall of a building.
In a preferred embodiment of the fastening piece according to the invention the first fastening piece part is in a fixed manner connected rotationally to the second fastening piece part. This makes mounting more simple, since it is not necessary during the mounting operation to couple the first fastening piece member with the second fastening piece member and fasten them together.

The figures show a fastening piece 1 for fastening a lighting device 2 or part of it to light mounting holes 4 located in an electrical installation box 3 or to light mounting holes 4, which have been provided in a building (not designated by a reference number) or which are made there, for example to light mounting holes 4 on an interior wall (not shown), exterior wall (not shown) or a ceiling 5 of a building.
In this context, the light mounting holes 4 in a building refer both to such light mounting holes 4 which are made prior to the fastening of the lighting device 2, as well as to light mounting holes 4 made in connection with the fastening of the lighting device 2.
The fastening piece 1 comprises first fastening members 6 for fastening the fastening piece 1 to mounting holes 4 in an electrical installation box 3 or a building, as well as second fastening members 7 for fastening a lighting device 2 or part of it to the fastening piece 1 in such a way that the lighting device 2 or a part of it can be fastened to an electrical installation box 3 or to a building by the fastening piece 1.
According to the invention, the fastening piece 1 comprises a first fastening piece part 8 and a second fastening piece part 9. The first fastening piece part 8 is rotationally connected to the second fastening piece part 9.
The first fastening piece part 8 may be fastened to the second fastening piece part 9 directly or through a separate connector (not designated by a reference number). In the figures, the first fastening piece part 8 is attached to the second fastening piece part 9 by a fastening rivet 10. It is also conceivable to provide the first fastening piece part 8 and/or the second fastening piece part 9 with a fastening arrangement (not shown in the figures) in order to rotationally connect the first fastening piece part 8 to the second fastening piece part 9. The first fastening piece part 8 may be fixedly or releasably connected in a rotational manner to the second fastening piece part 9.
The fastening piece may be such that the first fastening piece part 8 can be rotationally connected to the second fastening piece part 9 before the fastening piece 1 is fastened to the lighting device 2 or a part of it, and such that the fastening piece 1 can be fastened to the lighting device 2 or a part of it in such a way that the first fastening piece part 8 is rotationally connected to the second fastening piece part 9.
The fastening piece may be such that the first fastening piece part 8 can be rotationally connected to the second fastening piece part 9 before the fastening piece 1 is fastened to the light mounting holes 4, which have been provided in an electrical installation box 3 or a building or which are made to the building, and such that the fastening piece 1 can be fastened to the light mounting holes 4, which have been provided in an electrical installation box 3 or a building or which are made to the building, in such a way that the first fastening piece part 8 is rotationally connected to the second fastening piece part 9.
In the figures, the first fastening piece part 8 has been connected to the second fastening piece part 9 in such a way that the second fastening piece part 9 is adjusted to be compressed between the building and the first fastening piece part 8 as the fastening piece is fastened to the building by using the first fastening members 6, the second fastening piece part 9 furthermore being adapted to be compressed between the electrical installation box 3 and the first fastening piece member 8 as the fastening piece is fastened to the electrical installation box 3 by using the first fastening members 6. In this manner, the second fastening piece part 9 can be prevented form turning in respect to the first fastening piece part 8.
In the fastening piece 1 according to the invention, the first fastening piece part 8 has been provided with first fastening members 6 for fastening the fastening piece 1 to the light mounting holes 4 in an electrical installation box or a building. In the fastening piece 1 according to the invention, the second fastening piece part 9 has been provided with second fastening members 7 for fastening a lighting device 2 or part of it to the fastening piece 1.
hi the figures, the first fastening piece part 8 is rotationally connected to the second fastening piece part 9 in such a way that as the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9 are turned relative to each other around an imaginary swivelling axis C, the first fastening members 6 move on an imaginary swivelling plane A, which is substantially parallel to that second imaginary swivelling plane B on which the second holding members 7 move.
It is also conceivable that the first fastening members 6 and the second fastening members 7 have in the first fastening piece member 1 been arranged in such a way that as the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9 are being turned relative to each other, the first fastening members 6 move on several parallel imaginary first swivelling planes A and the second fastening members 7 move in a corresponding manner on several imaginary parallel second swivelling planes B, which are parallel to the first swivelling planes A.
hi the depicted fastening piece 1, the first fastening members 6 comprise two first through- holes 11 for fastening the fastening piece 1 by screws or similar fastening members to light fastening holes 4 in an electrical installation box 3 or in a building, hi the figures, the first through-holes 11 have been formed as elongated through-holes in order to enable the adjustment of the position of the fastening piece 1 in respect to the light mounting holes 4 in an electrical installation box or in a building as the fastening piece 1 is fastened by screws or by similar fastening members to the light mounting holes 4 in an electrical installation box 3 or in a building.
In the depicted fastening piece 1, the second fastening members 7 comprise two second through-holes 12 for fastening the fastening piece 1 by screws or by similar fastening members to the lighting device 2 or a part of it. hi the figures, the second through-holes 12 are tapped holes. The first fastening piece part 8 of the depicted fastening piece 1 is an elongated planar plate element that has been cut to shape.
In the figures, the first fastening piece part 8 is symmetrical with respect to the imaginary swivelling axis C. Therefore, in the figures the first fastening members 6 of the first fastening piece part 8 are located symmetrically with respect to the first said swivelling axis C. As the first fastening piece part 8 is being turned in respect to the second fastening piece part 9, the first fastening members 6 therefore move around the said imaginary swivelling axis C.
The second fastening piece part 9 of the depicted fastening piece 1 is an elongated planar plate element, which has been cut to shape and which comprises shaped fastening sections at its both ends. In the figures, the second fastening piece part 9 is symmetrical with respect to the said imaginary swivelling axis C. Therefore, in the figures the second fastening members 7 of the second fastening piece part 9 are located symmetrically with respect to the said swivelling axis C. As the second fastening piece part 9 is being turned in respect to the first fastening piece part 8, the second fastening members 7 therefore move around the said imaginary swivelling axis C.
In the figures, the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9 are rotationally connected on top of each other so that the first fastening piece part 8 is symmetrical with respect to the said imaginary swivelling axis C and so that the second fastening piece part 9 is symmetrical with respect to the said imaginary swivelling axis C.
In the figures, an aperture 13 has been provided at the location of the swivelling axis C for an electric cable (not shown) running to the lighting device. The aperture 13 runs through both the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9. In the figures, the imaginary swivelling axis C runs through the aperture 13. In the figures, the aperture 13 is adapted to run through both the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9 as the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9 are turned relative to each other into any desired position. Therefore, in the fastening piece according to the figure the electric cable can not become compressed between the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9 as the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9 are being turned relative to each other.
In the fastening piece 1 according to the figure, the aperture has been formed by providing the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9 with holes (not designated by a reference number) and by fastening the first fastening piece part 8 and the second fastening piece part 9 rotationally to each other by the fastening rivet 10, which comprises an aperture 13, and goes through both the aperture in the first fastening piece part 8 and the aperture in the second fastening piece part 9.
It is obvious to a person skilled in the art that inspired by technical advances, the basic principle of the invention may be implemented in several different ways. Therefore, the invention and its embodiments are not restricted to the above-described examples but may vary within the scope of the claims.
