Abstract

The present invention relates to a transport support (1) that prevents the products (U) and their packages from being damaged during their transport.

Description

Description A TRANSPORT SUPPORT
[I] The present invention relates to a transport support that prevents the damaging of packaged products during transport.
[2] Commercial products, preferably household appliances, may slide in the container they are loaded and compress one another during transport to the sales locations. Sliding, compressing or compressed products may be damaged and these damages may affect the product sales.
[3] In state-of-the-art implementations, even though the product packages are wrapped around the product to prevent damaging, additional supports are necessary during transport to prevent damaging of the package wrapping around the product and damaging of the product itself. Styropore or cardboards are placed in between the products, but these materials can be dislocated during transport and not fulfill their functions. Furthermore, problems may arise in attaching these types of materials in between the products and in some cases, a lot of material have to be used. Utilizing a large amount of material may create problems with regard to costs and time.
[4] In the state-of-the-art United States Patent no. US5669496, shipping restraints for domestic appliances are described.
[5] The object of the present invention is to design a transport support that prevents damaging of the products and their packaging during transport.
[6] The transport support designed to fulfill the objectives of the present invention is explicated in the first claim, the other features are explicated in the respective claims.
[7] In the embodiment of the present invention, a practical, inexpensive and reusable transport support is explicated which is compressed in between the products during stowing the products to be transported using its fastener, it is placed so that its buffer faces the surfaces of the products, providing the products and their packages not to be damaged by preventing the contact of the adjacently positioned products with the transport vehicle walls and with other products.
[8] The transport support designed to fulfill the objectives of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:

[21] Elements shown in figures are numbered as follows:
[22] 1 - Transport support
[23] 2 - Buffer
[24] 3 - Fastener
[25] 4 - Recess inlet
[26] 5 - Recess
[27] 6 - Locker
[28] In the embodiment of the present invention, a practical, inexpensive and reusable transport support (1) is utilized so that the products (U), preferably household appliances, and their packaging are not damaged during transport.
[29] The transport support (1) comprises at least one buffer (2), made of an elastic material, e.g. plastic or rubber, arranged between the adjacently positioned products (U) or between the vehicle walls (D) and the products (U) during stowing of the products (U) to be transported, preventing their contact with each other and hence the damaging of the products (U) and their packaging, and one or more fasteners (3) made of a hard and rigid material, preferably hard plastics, that provides the buffer (2) to be fastened on the products (U) or in between the products (U) and prevents its dislocation, with one end placed inside the buffer (2) and the other end placed on the stowed products (U) or in between the products (U).
[30] In the embodiment of the present invention, the transport support (1) is formed after the fastener (3) is fixed on the buffer (2) by pushing and the extension of the fastener (3) extending out from the buffer (2) is placed on a product (U) or in between adjacent products (U). Thus, the buffer (2) does not change position during transport and the products (U) and the packaging are protected from damage.
[31] In an embodiment of the present invention, the buffer (2) comprises at least one recess (5) having a shape matching the shape of the fastener (3), into which the fastener (3) is fitted. The recess (5) has a shape that prevents the movement of the fastener (3) in the direction of fitting but not limiting its movement in the reverse direction on the same line.
[32] In another embodiment of the present invention, the buffer (2) comprises a recess inlet (4), positioned on the recess (5), through which the fastener (3) passes to enter into the recess (5), having a shape providing the fixing of the fastener (3) and protecting it.
[33] In another embodiment of the present invention, a buffer (2) made of styropore having EPS (Expanded Polystyrene), EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) or EPE (Expanded Polyethylene) characteristic is utilized. Accordingly, when the fastener (3) made of a hard material is fitted into the recess (5) by pushing, it can be fixed in the recess (5) by deforming the styropore material.
[34] In another embodiment of the present invention, the fastener (3) is in form of a trapezoidal prism having two parallel lateral trapezoidal surfaces (YU) and a wall thickness (KU) thin enough to enter in between the products (U). In this embodiment, the recess (5) has a shape that matches the shape of the fastener (3) and has a width allowing the fastener (3) to be inserted in between. So when the fastener (3) is fitted into the recess (5) by pushing, it is fixed in the recess (5) in the pushing direction. When the end of the fastener (3) extending from the recess (5) is positioned in between the products (U), the fastener (3) and the buffer (2) gets fixed on the product (U) (Figure 1, Figure 3, Figure 4, Figure 9).
[35] In this embodiment of the present invention, the components of the transport support (1) are produced separately. As for the utilization of the produced components during transport, first the fastener (3) is fitted in the recess (5) by pushing, and the extension of the fastener (3) extending out from the buffer (2) is situated on a product (U). After the transport support (1) is placed on the product (U), another product (U) is placed upon the extension of the fastener (3) and on the former product (U). Consequently, the fastener (3) can be compressed in between two products (U) and fixed with ease. By placing the fastener (3) as close to the corners as possible, the surfaces of more than one adjacent product (U) can be in contact with the buffer (2). Accordingly, the transport support (1) that is fixed by the weight of the products (U) prevent damaging of the product (U) parts to which it is fixed during transport. After the transport, as the products (U) are unloaded from the transport vehicle one by one, the transport supports (1) compressed to be fixed between the products (U) are collected to be used in the next transport by being compressed between the products (U).
[36] In another embodiment of the present invention, a "T" shaped fastener (3) having an extension shaped as a trapezoidal prism is utilized, while the extension of the "T" shape is fitted in the recess (5), the other part perpendicular to the extension of the "T" shape is kept in the recess (5), preventing the dislocation of the fastener (3) from the recess (5) in the direction of the "T" shaped extension (Figure 10).
[37] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the transport support (1) comprises one or more lockers (6), situated on the buffer (2) and the fastener (3), and formed of mutually matching recesses and/or protrusions, providing the buffer (2) and the fastener (3) to be fixed to each other (Figure 10).
[38] In another embodiment of the present invention, a fastener (3) having an extension with trapezoidal side surfaces, the sections perpendicular to the side surfaces being cross shaped is utilized, when the fastener (3) is fitted in the recess (5), the part with the biggest cross shaped section stays in the recess inlet (4) and the extension with the smaller section passes through the recess (5), extending outwards from the buffer (2). The extension is positioned on the facing corners of the four adjacent products (U). Accordingly, the fastener (3) cannot be dislocated from the recess (5) at the place where its extension is placed due to the different sized sectional areas, and since its extension is compressed in between the products (U), the part of the fastener (3) extension having a wider sectional area is prevented from being dislocated from the recess (5) (Figure 11).
[39] In another embodiment of the present invention, a fastener (3) having an extension with trapezoidal side surfaces, the sections perpendicular to the side surfaces being triangle shaped is utilized, when the fastener (3) is fitted in the recess (5), the part with the biggest triangle section stays in the recess inlet (4) and the extension part with a smaller section passes through the recess (5), extending outwards from the buffer (2). The extension is fitted in the recess (5) on the product (U) that has a matching shape. Consequently, the fastener (3) does not dislocate from the recess (5) at the place where its extension is fitted due to the different sized sections, and since its extension is fitted in their recesses (5) on the products (U), the extension part having a wider sectional area is prevented from being dislocated from the recess (5) (Figure 12).
[40] By way of the embodiment of the present invention, the products (U) are prevented from being damaged by bumping each other or the walls of the transport vehicle during transport.
