Abstract

The backlight illumination system has a plurality of parallel-arranged linear light sources (1, 1'), a light-emitting surface (5) and a reflector (10, 10') comprising a reflective region formed in symmetry on both sides of each light source. The reflective region includes: - a first reflective surface (11) close to the light source (1, 1') and arranged substantially horizontally, a second reflective surface (12) formed into either an angled or a concavely curved surface, a fourth reflective surface (14) formed into either an angled or a convexly curved surface, and a third reflective surface (13) formed into an angled surface, provided between the second and the fourth reflective surface, and arranged convexly with respect to the second reflective surface and concavely with respect to the fourth reflective surface. The third reflective surface is preferably oriented in such a way that incidence of direct light from the light source on the third reflective surface is prevented.
