Definitions

  • the present invention relates to swimsuits for use in sunbathing and water related activities, such as swimming and surfing.
  • Sunbathing at pools and beaches is a prevalent past time and is engaged in, to some extent, to obtain tanned skin for personal appearance reasons.
  • Such outdoor sunbathing frequently results in tan lines due to the various straps and coverings of swimsuits. This is undesirable for some individuals as the tan lines may be visible while wearing other types of clothing when not sunbathing.
  • tan lines on women may be visible when wearing certain strapless or backless dresses, or garments having plunging necklines, or low cut jeans and shorts, or the like.
  • swimwear frequently is not well secured to a wearer due to the size constraints and/or strength of the material being used. This is particularly problematic when the wearer engages in rigorous water related activities, such as swimming, diving, surfing, windsurfing, waterskiing, and the like, or while participating in other beach related activities, such as volleyball, frisbee, or the like.
  • Typical swimsuits may fall off the hips of the wearer, or shift from the area desired to be covered, or slide up the legs of the wearer, or the like.
  • a swimsuit is desired that enables sunbathing while avoiding tan lines and/or enables participation in water or beach related activities while limiting or substantially precluding undesirable movement of the swimsuit.
  • the present invention provides a swimsuit intended for use while sunbathing or engaging in water related activities that remains securely in place on a wearer.
  • Various straps or bands may be omitted from the swimsuit and thus enable a wearer to tan while limiting the number of tan lines that would otherwise result or, regardless of whether or not the straps or bands are omitted, a wearer is able to participate in rigorous water or beach related activities without risk of his or her swimsuit becoming displaced.
  • a swimsuit for use when sunbathing and/or engaging in water or beach activities comprises at least one cover member and at least one fastener.
  • the at least one cover member has an inner surface, an outer surface, and at least one periphery and is adapted for covering a portion of a wearer's body.
  • the at least one fastener is disposed on the inner surface of the at least one cover member proximate the at least one periphery and generally along the at least one periphery.
  • the at least one fastener is adapted to substantially secure the at least one cover member to the skin of a wearer such that the at least one cover member is substantially precluded from being unintentionally displaced while on the wearer.
  • a swimsuit for use when sunbathing and/or engaging in water or beach activities comprises at least one cover member for covering a portion of a wearer's body, at least one fastener pad, and at least one fastener.
  • the at least one cover member has an inner surface and an outer surface and the at least one fastener pad is substantially fixedly secured to the inner surface of the at least one cover member.
  • the at least one fastener is disposed on the at least one fastener pad on the inner surface of the at least one cover member and is adapted to substantially secure the at least one cover member to the skin of a wearer such that the at least one cover member is substantially precluded from being unintentionally displaced while on the wearer.
  • a swimsuit for use when sunbathing and/or engaging in water or beach activities comprises at least one cover member for covering a portion of a wearer's body, at least one fastener, and at least one removable strap.
  • the at least one cover member has an inner surface and an outer surface and the at least one fastener is disposed on the inner surface of the at least one cover member.
  • the at least one removable strap is adapted for selective attachment to and removal from the at least one cover member.
  • the at least one fastener is adapted to substantially secure the at least one cover member to the skin of a wearer such that the at least one cover member is substantially precluded from being unintentionally displaced while on the wearer.
  • the swimsuit of the present invention provides an apparel item for use when sunbathing, swimming, and/or participating in other water or beach related activities.
  • the swimsuit includes fasteners, and may include fastener pads on an inner surface of the swimsuit for receiving the fasteners, to temporarily secure or adhere the swimsuit to the skin of a wearer.
  • the swimsuit may be constructed as a strapless swimsuit, or include portions which are strapless, with the fasteners providing retention of the swimsuit to the skin of the wearer.
  • the swimsuit may include removable straps for increasing exposure when removed for sunbathing, and which may provide added support, coverage, or security against unwanted movement when attached.
  • the swimsuit thus enables a wearer to avoid unwanted tan lines, which may be desirable for the wearer when wearing particular clothing items, such as strapless and backless dresses, or garments having plunging necklines, or low cut jeans and shorts.
  • the strapless nature of the swimsuit further provides a provocative beachwear style item.

  • FIG. 1 A swimsuit 20 is shown in FIG. 1 that is intended to be worn by a female wearer 22 and includes a cover member formed as a top portion or top member or bikini top 24 and a cover member formed as a bottom portion or bottom member or bikini bottom 26.
  • top member 24 includes an outer surface 28 and an inner surface 30, and bottom member 26 also includes an outer surface 32 and an inner surface 34.
  • FIGS. 2 and 3 illustrate that top and bottom members 24, 26, respectively, include securing elements or fasteners 36, 38 positioned on fastener pads 40, 42 of inner surfaces 30, 34.
  • Fasteners 36, 38 are adapted to temporarily secure or adhere top and bottom members 24, 26 to the skin of wearer 22 such that swimsuit 20 is limited or substantially precluded from inadvertently and undesirably moving or shifting on wearer 22, or from falling off of wearer 22.
  • Swimsuit 20 therefore, enables wearer 22 to sunbathe and avoid tan lines in unwanted areas, such as the shoulders and back, and/or enables wearer 22 to more comfortably and confidently participate in water activities such as swimming, diving, surfing, windsurfing, waterskiing, and the like, or other beach related activities such as volleyball, frisbee, or the like.
  • Top and bottom members 24, 26 of swimsuit 20 may be made from known materials used in the production of swimsuits, such as Lycra ®, polyester, cotton, spandex, and nylon, or blends thereof.
  • a swimsuit may also be constructed of neoprene, or other cloth or fabric type materials suitable for use in water-type environments and still function as intended within the scope of the present invention. Such materials are beneficially used in water environments due, for example to their ability to generally avoid shrinkage, repel water, and/or retain colors.
  • Top and bottom members 24, 26 may be constructed to be solid colored or multi-colored and may include prints or patterns, or may include words or symbols, such as a trademark, service mark, logo, slogan, or the like, on the outer surfaces 28, 32.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate that top member 24 is constructed from first and second halves or portions 44, 46 that are connected by strap or band 48.
  • the top member thus may be readily applied or adhered to the front of the wearer (as described below) without any straps wrapped around the neck or back or shoulders of the wearer.
  • Top member 24 includes several edges 50 and corners 52, with corners 52 generally being located at the intersection of two edges 50. Edges 50 and corners 52 thus form or define a periphery or boundary 54 about the respective halves or portions 44, 46 of top member 24, where the periphery 54 may be traced by starting at an edge 50 or comer 52 and following the various edges 50 and corners 52 until the original starting location is reached.
  • Fasteners 36 generally surround or generally extend along the periphery 54 of top member 24.
  • top member 24 may optionally include a conventional elastic style band positioned along the lower edge 50 passing through band 48 for additional retention and support of top member 24 to wearer 22.
  • FIGS. 1 and 3 illustrate that bottom member 26 includes front and back portions
  • Bottom member 26 has an upper edge 61 and edges 62, where each edge 61, 62 defines a generally circular periphery 63, 64 that, when bottom member 26 is worn by wearer 22, surrounds a waist of the wearer or a leg of the wearer 22, respectively (as shown in FIG. 1).
  • Fasteners 38 generally surround or generally extend along the peripheries 63, 64 of bottom member 26.
