Description
Description A DRYER
[0001] The present invention relates to a dryer comprising a drum, with a large volume for loading laundry, enabling the efficient use of the body volume. [0002] Dryers preferably having a quadrilateral prism shaped body, comprise a cylindrical drum that can rotate around its central axis, into which the laundry to be dried is placed. The cylindrical shape is preferred since it allows the drum to move rotationally.
Nonfunctional volumes are formed as a result of positioning a cylindrical drum into the quadrilateral prism shaped body of the dryer and the amount of laundry loaded is limited by the dimensions of the cylindrical shaped drum. [0003] The aim of the present invention is to design a dryer having a drum with an increased laundry loading capacity without changing the outer dimensions. [0004] The dryer designed to fulfill the objectives of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
[0005] Figure 1 - is the perspective view of a dryer, [0006] Figure 2 - is the perspective view of a front and rear panel and a drum positioned in between. [0007] Figure 3 - is the exploded view of a front and rear panel and a drum positioned in between.
[0008] Figure 4 - is the AA sectional view of a dryer. [0009] Figure 5 - is the sideways detailed view of a side wall having more than one segment attached to each other.
[0010] Figure 6 - is the perspective view of a segment. [0011] Elements shown in figures are numbered as follows:
1. Dryer
2. Panel
3. Flap
4. Drum
5. Motor
6. Transmitter
7. Side wall
8. Lid
9. Protrusion
10. Recess
11. Body
12. Retainer
13. Front wall
14. Rear wall
15. Channel
16. Segment
[0012] The dryer (1) comprises a body (11), more than one panel (2) forming the side surfaces of the body (11), a drum (4) into which the laundry to be dried is placed, a lid (8) positioned on the panel (2) situated at the front, providing access into the drum (4) and a motor (5) that drives the drum (4).
[0013] The drum (4) comprises a fixed front wall (13), a fixed rear wall (14) positioned opposite the front wall (13), a side wall (7) positioned between the front wall (13) and the rear wall (14), which can move rotationally in between the front wall (13) and the rear wall (14) while they are fixed, channels (15) one of which is positioned on the front wall (13) and the other on the rear wall (14), into which the edges of the side wall (7) are seated and inside which the side wall (7) can move rotationally.
[0014] The dryer (1) of the present invention comprises one or more transmitters (6) which transmit the drive of the motor (5) to the side wall (7) with which it is in contact so that the side wall (7) moves.
[0015] In one embodiment of the present invention, the side wall (7) comprises at least one retainer (12) positioned on its edges that fit into the channel (15).
[0016] In the present embodiment, the front wall (13) and the rear wall (14) are fixed to the body (11) so that the side wall (7) is in between them. After the front wall (13) and the rear wall (14) are positioned parallel to each other with a distance that will not prevent the movement of the side wall (7) in the channel (15), the transmitter (6) is positioned on the motor (5) and the side wall (7) in such a way that it can transmit the drive of the motor (5) to the side wall (7), activating the side wall (7). Consequently when the motor (5) starts operating, the transmitter (6) attached to the motor (5) starts operating together with the motor (5), and as it moves, it also activates the side wall (7) on which it is positioned. As the side wall (7) moves in the channel (15) on the fixed front and rear walls (13, 14), it also agitates the laundry placed inside.
[0017] In another embodiment of the present invention, a pallet shaped side wall (7) is utilized. The side wall (7) comprises more than one segment (16) that can move together, each being attached to the next one. In this embodiment, at least one retainer (12) positioned on the sides of the segments (16) to prevent their dislocation and dissociation when activated, one or more transmitters (6) that can transmit the drive of the motor (5) to the side wall (7) by being in contact with each segment (16) that composes the side wall (7), activating the segments (16), the side wall (7) and the drum (4) are utilized.
[0018] In this embodiment of the present invention, the segment (16) comprises a protrusion (9) on one side to attach it to the adjacent segment (16) and on the other side
one or more recesses (10) having a shape that clasp the protrusion (9) on another segment (16), allowing the protrusion (9) to move inside.
[0019] In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, a cylindrical shaped protrusion (9) on the segment (16) and a cylindrical shaped recess (10) that can move rotationally around the central axis of the protrusion (9) are utilized (Figure 5).
[0020] In one embodiment of the present invention, the side walls (7) can be activated with the help of a strap shaped transmitter (6).
[0021] In another embodiment of the present invention, the transmitter (6) is in form of a chain and/or a gear. In the embodiment wherein the chain shaped transmitter (6) is utilized, the side wall (7) comprises protrusions that fit into the channels on the chain shaped transmitter (6). Thus, when the chain shaped transmitter (6) is activated, the side walls (7) are activated together with the transmitter (6) by way of the protrusions fitting into the channels on the transmitter (6). In the embodiment where gear shaped transmitter (6) is utilized, the tooth of the gear shaped transmitter (6) are fitted into the sockets on the side wall (7), providing activation of the side wall (7) together with the gear.
[0022] In another embodiment of the present invention, the pallet shaped side wall (7) comprises one or more flaps (3) positioned on it so that they face the inner volume of the drum (4) and move together with it. Thus, the producer is able to change the segment (16) not having a flap (3) by a segment (16) having a flap (3), consequently, being able to assemble a flap (3) in any position on the side wall (7) hence the drum (4).
[0023] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the flap (3) can be mounted on or dismounted from any desired segment (16). In the preferred embodiment, the latches on the flap (3) are fitted into the channels on the segment (16) and allow the flap (3) to be fastened on the segment (16). Consequently, the desired number of flaps (3) can be fastened on the pallet shaped side wall (7), hence on the interior side surface of the drum (4) in the desired position.
[0024] In another embodiment of the present invention, the front wall (13) and the rear wall (14) are utilized to serve also as a panel (2).
[0025] In another embodiment of the present invention, the dryer (1) comprises a quadrilateral side wall (7) having rounded corners.
[0026] In another embodiment of the present invention, a flexible side wall (7) made of plastic material that can move in the channel (15) by bending is utilized.
[0027] In another embodiment of the present invention, a thin, plate shaped side wall (7) made of metal, having a flexible build, moving in the channel (15) without being stuck is utilized.
[0028] In the preferred embodiment, the dryer (1) operates preferably with a low and
constant speed and dries the laundry inside preferably by the air flow directed onto them. Thus, for example, the pallet shaped side wall (7) composed of segments (16) may function as required and may be activated rotationally whether it has a cylindrical shape or not.
[0029] With the embodiment of the present invention, the side wall (7) is moved in the channel (15) by the transmitter (6) that transmits the drive of the motor (5). The shape of the channel (15) determines the shape of the side wall (7) and the drum (4). The channel (15) is formed in the size and shape determined by the producer, encompassing the nonfunctional volumes within the dryer (1) without preventing the movement capability of the side wall (7). By this means, a side wall (7) can be formed in either a triangle shape with rounded corners or a quadrilateral shape with rounded corners or any other form with corners rounded so that movement is not prevented.
[0030] The drum (4) of the present invention, can move by rotationally even though it is limited in the planar by the panels (2) and having a shape different than a cylinder so that it encompasses the nonfunctional volumes, and provides drying of a greater amount of laundry since it has a volume bigger than a cylindrical drum (4) with a diameter that is the widest possible allowed by the panels (2).
