Abstract
A surprising and spectacular appearance can be imparted to a mobile telephone by means of a substantially transparent foil which is adhered to the window and which strongly reflects light incident from outside such that, in the case where the display is not generating any light, the foil has the appearance of a mirror and, in the case where the display is generating light, the foil transmits a substantial part of the light from the display. The foil can be releasable. The foil can also be provided with an imprint, for instance a mark.
Description
MOBILE TELEPHONE, THE DISPLAY WINDOW OF WHICH IS COVERED WITH A TRANSPARENT, REFLECTING FOIL ADHERED THERETO
The invention relates to a mobile, hand-portable telephone, comprising: a housing; an electronic telephone unit accommodated in this housing; a battery; a keyboard on the outer side of the housing which is accessible for operation at least during use of the mobile telephone for the purpose of operating the electronic telephone unit; and at least one display present on the outer side of the housing at least during use of the mobile telephone, which at least during any operation of the mobile telephone generates light under the control of the electronic telephone unit in accordance with a pattern controlled by the electronic telephone unit such that the user of the mobile telephone can read the operating mode and other relevant information from the display; which does not generate light when the mobile telephone is not in use; and which comprises a transparent window. Such a telephone is generally known and in use on a very large scale and is supplied by many manufacturers with the most diverse forms and technical properties. The invention has for its object to give a mobile telephone a very surprising external appearance.
It is a further object of the invention to furnish provisions using which any mobile telephone, including any mobile telephone already in use, can acquire a very attractive appearance by means of a very minor technical operation.
With a view to the above, the invention generally provides a mobile telephone of the type stated in the preamble which is characterized by a substantially transparent foil which is adhered to the window and
which strongly reflects light incident from outside such that, in the case where the display is not generating any light, the foil has the appearance of a mirror and, in the case where the display is generating light, the foil transmits a substantial part of the light from the display.
For the purpose of a relatively easy exchangeability with a foil having other optical properties, such as the colour, the degree of reflection and the like, the mobile telephone according to the invention can advantageously have the feature that the foil is adhered releasably to the window.
The invention further relates to a foil for use with a mobile telephone of the type according to the invention specified in the foregoing, wherein the foil has a form adapted to the shape of the window.
The foil preferably has the special feature that the foil has a substantially transparent adhesive layer on its side to be directed to the window. In this case the adhesive layer is preferably covered in the factory with an easily peeled-off protective foil, whereby there is no danger of the adhesive layer adhering in uncontrolled manner to any surface.
An extra-attractive appearance can be obtained with an embodiment in which the foil has a wavelength- selective absorption such that, when reflecting light, the foil displays a colour defined thereby. The foil can for instance give a reflection that is a golden lustre, a silver lustre, blue, yellow, green, red, purple or any other desired colour or pattern of colours. This is found to give a spectacular and surprising effect. What is additionally striking here is that, in the case where the display begins to generate light, this light is very readily visible through the reflecting foil. According to yet another aspect of the invention, the foil has the feature that the foil is provided with an imprint, for instance a mark. The imprint can for instance be opaque or non-transparent, it can be wholly transparent and display a colour which contrasts with its immediate vicinity, or be opalescent, whereby it transmits the light to a certain extent but imparts a
certain diffusiveness thereto. It is also possible to envisage an embodiment wherein the imprint is transparent and displays a colour corresponding to the colour of the light generated at least locally by the display, in particular the background. With such a choice the surprising effect is achieved of the imprint being very clearly visible and contrasting with its immediate vicinity when the telephone is not in use, while as a result of the transmitted light of the same colour from the display it becomes almost invisible when the display emits light of the colour in question. The impression is then created that the imprint is actively controlled by the electronic telephone unit, i.e. is switched on when the telephone is not in use and switched off during operation of the telephone.
A mark for presenting can consist .of a trade name and optionally an image component such as a logo. Manufacturers of perfume articles can for instance give the foil away free. These foils are then provided with their mark, whereby a user is almost automatically confronted with the associated advertising message each time he/she uses the telephone,
In an alternative embodiment the foil has the special feature that the foil is provided with a hologram, for instance a mark.
The invention also relates to a package in which at least one foil of one of the above specified types is accommodated. A package can for instance contain three foils with different colours. The user can hereby make a choice. In the case of a removable foil the user can, if desired, also occasionally change foil, and therefore colour. This is a- very attractive option, certainly for young users.
Very practical is an embodiment in which the package is a so-called blister pack. A blister pack has the advantage of a great visual appeal and great mechanical strength and stability, while the package can be manufactured very cheaply, for instance by thermo- forming or vacuum-forming.
