Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention relate to a detector comprising first and second lenses for use with respective first and second sensing means; each lens comprising a plurality of Fresnel facets having respective fields of view adapted such that the fields of view of the first lens are alternately arranged with the fields of view of the second lens such that the fields of view of the first lens are adjacent only to, but do not overlap with, the fields of view of the second lens in a single direction.

(17.11.2006)
22. A detector as claimed in claim 21 wherein the means to generate the blocking detection signal comprises a timer arranged to time out after the first period of time and to generate, or cause to be generated, the blocking detection signal and means to detect input of the second input to at least stop or reset the timer.
23. A detector as claimed in claim 21 or 22 wherein the first signal has a first type.
24. A detector as claimed in claim 23 wherein the second signal has a second type.
25. A detector as claimed in claim 24 wherein the first type and the second type
10 are the same.
26. A detector as claimed in claim 24 wherein the first and second signals have different types.
27. A detector as claimed in any of claims 21 to 26, wherein the first signal is derived from a microwave sensor or a PIR sensor.
, r 28. A detector as claimed in any of claims 21 to 27, wherein the second signal is derived from a microwave sensor or a PIR sensor.
29. An optical arrangement or system for a detector as claimed in any of claims 1 to 28.
30. A method of detecting masking of sensing means of a detector as claimed in any of claims 1 to 28, comprising 0 detecting an event proximate the detector using the sensing means;
providing a masking indicating output after a predetermined time period, unless within the predetermined time period the sensing means detects an event.
31. A method as claimed in claim 30, comprising timing the predetermined time 5 period using a timer.
32. A method as claimed in claim 31, comprising restarting the timer if the sensing means detects a further event within the predetermined time period.
30
33. A method as claimed in claim 32, wherein the further event is a proximate event within 50cm of the detector.
34. A method as claimed in any of claims 31 to 33, comprising resetting the timer if the sensing means detects a distant event within the predetermined time period.
35. A system comprising means to carry out a method as claimed in any of claims 30 to 34.
36. A detector as claimed in any of claims 1 to 28, further comprising means to implement the method as claimed in any of claims 30 to 34.
