Abstract

A cigarette packet comprises two compartments, one of which contains the cigarettes and the other is an extinguisher/disposal compartment for disposal of cigarette butts. The disposal compartment has an access opening closed by a hinged cap seal. When a live butt is placed into the disposal compartment and the cap seal closed, the butt begins to extinguish due to lack of available oxygen. The disposal compartment may be manufactured as part of the packet or attached to existing packets.

TITLE: CIGARETTE BUTT EXTINGUISHER/DISPOSAL
THIS INNOVATION ALLOWS A SMOKER OF CIGARETTES TO
DISPOSE OF THE CIGARETTE BUTT BY INSERTING THE BUTT
INTO A SEALED COMPARTMENT ATTACHED OR
MANUFACTURED TO EXISTING PACKETS. THE BENEFITS
ABOVE EXISTING PRODUCTS ARE:
❖ THE ELIMINATION OF BUTTS FROM THE ENVIRONMENT
❖ ALLOWING SMOKERS TO EASILY ASSIMILATE THE USE OF THE INNOVATION THEREBY ACCEPTING IT AS UNOBTRUSIVE
❖ BUTTS SEALED IN COMPARTMENT REMOVES UNSIGHTLY BUTTS FROM ENVIRONMENT, THE BUTT IS EXTINGUISHED BY REMOVAL OF OXYGEN DUE TO COMBUSTION, THE BUTT IS NOT THROWN AWAY AS A FIRE HAZARD AND SMELL IS CONTAINED
❖ PEOPLE WHO SMOKE DON'T HAVE TO CARRY A SEPARATE ITEM SUCH AS AN ASHTRAY WHEN SMOKING
SPECIFICATIONS OF CIGARETTE BUTT EXTINGUISHER
❖ A COMPARTMENT IS PROVIDED SOMEWHERE ON THE CIGARETTE PACK PREFERABLY AS PER DIAGRAM

❖ BUTTS ARE DEPOSITED INTO COMPARTMENT AND . SEALED BY A PLASTIC CAP SEAL WHICH IS
MANUFACTURED FLUSH WITH SIDE OF PACK
❖ PLASTIC CAP SEAL IS ATTACHED TO PACK BY PLASTIC FLEXIBLE HINGE
❖ BUTTS CAN NOW BE DISPOSED OF WITH CIGARETTE PACK

Claims

1. Cigarette butts are extinguished when sealed in the compartment added to existing packets of cigarettes. The cigarette pack consists of two compartments, one of which contains the cigarettes and one for the disposal of the butts.
2. Live cigarette butts are placed directly into the extinguisher/disposal compartment via a rounded access point which has a hinged cap seal attached. On closing shut the cap seal the burning cigarette butt begins to extinguish due to lack of available oxygen. This prevents the lit cigarette butt from burning the packet. Without oxygen the possibility of combustion is eliminated.
3. The first butt placed in the compartment extinguishes within approximately 30 seconds due to lack of available oxygen. As the compartment fills with disposed butts extinguishment occurs at a faster rate due to reduced volume of air capacity in the compartment.
4. The cigarette butts contained in the extinguisher/disposal compartment are retained and physically trapped within the compartment thus preventing leakage in the event of damage to the packet. Once inserted, the butt is securely contained due to the relative size of the cigarette butt to the access point.
5. Due to rounded and sealed access hole feature, noxious odours from extinguished butts are contained.
6. The volume of the cigarette butt compartment should be commensurate with the volume of the pre-used filters.
