Description

Description
ORTHODONTICS BRACKET AND METHOD FOR ATTACHING THE SAME ON TEETH
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to an orthodontics bracket; and, more particularly, to an orthodontics bracket for correcting teeth that are positioned improperly and a method of attaching the same on the teeth. Background Art
[2] Generally, orthodontics is a special discipline of dentistry concerned with aligning the teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly to improve one' smile and oral health. That is, the orthodontics corrects tissues and muscles around teeth disturbing a row of teeth, corrects complete teeth, or corrects malocclusions such as a maxilla prognathism and a mandibular prognathism.
[3] The orthodontics is generally classified into two methods according to a direction of correcting teeth such as from the labial to the lingual, or from the lingual to the labial.
[4] FlG. 1 is a view showing orthodontics brackets attached on teeth according to the related art.
[5] As shown in FlG. 1, an apparatus for correcting the row of teeth according to the related art includes a plurality of brackets 110 attached on the teeth 100 and a wire 120 that connects and holds the brackets 110 attached on the teeth by being inserted into slots formed on each of the brackets 110.
[6] In order to attach each of the orthodontics brackets 110 on a corresponding tooth, proper amount of adhesive is coated at the surface 111 of brackets 110 and the bracket 110 is attached on the corresponding tooth 100. Herein, a self bond or a light bond is used as the adhesive. The light bond is generally used, recently.
[7] After applying the adhesive on the surfaces 111, the brackets 110 are aligned on the teeth. After the adhesive is completely hardened, the wire 120 is installed along the brackets 110 by being inserted into the slots 112 of brackets 110 attached on the teeth.
[8] After completely correcting the teeth, the brackets 110 are removed from the teeth.
When the brackets 110 are removed from the teeth, enamel of teeth are also removed from the teeth with the brackets 110. It is because the adhesive such as the light bond is hardened on the teeth made of ceramics, which was applied to attach the brackets on the teeth.
[9] Such removal of enamel damages the teeth and it requires a medical care. If the damaged teeth are not medically treated, the teeth may be seriously damaged by hypochlorization. Disclosure of Invention Technical Problem

[16] While the present invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to exemplary embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the following claims. Brief Description of the Drawings
[17] The above and other features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent by describing in detail exemplary embodiments thereof with reference to the attached drawings in which: [18] FlG. 1 is a view showing orthodontics brackets attached on teeth according to the related art; [19] FlG. 2 is a perspective view of an orthodontics bracket according to an embodiment of the present invention;
[20] FlG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the orthodontics bracket shown in FlG. 2; and
[21] FlG. 4 is a flowchart of a method of attaching orthodontics brackets on teeth according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention [22] Hereinafter, an orthodontics bracket and a method of attaching the same will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. [23] FlG. 2 is a perspective view of an orthodontics bracket according to an embodiment of the present invention. [24] As shown in FlG. 2, the orthodontics bracket 200 includes a main body 210, a slot
220, an attaching surface 230, a groove 240 and an alumina coating layer 250. [25] The main body 210 is a contour of the bracket 200. The main body 210 includes the slot 220 formed on one side thereof and the attaching surface 230 formed on other side thereof to be easily attached on the teeth. [26] In the present embodiment, the main body 210 may be made of materials such as ceramic, zirconia, synthetic resins or alumina. [27] The slot 220 is a groove formed on the outer circumference of the bracket 200 in a shape of D' to receive the wire. [28] The attaching surface 230 is formed at the opposite surface of the bracket 200. The attaching surface 230 may be formed in a shape of rectangle for easily coating the coating material on the attaching surface 230 and for easily attaching the bracket 200 on the teeth. [29] The alumina coating layer 250 is formed on the attaching surface 230 by melting the compound type alumina coating material. The alumina coating layer 250 prevents the bracket 200 from being reacted with the ceramic of teeth when the bracket 200 is attached on the teeth. [30] The groove 240 is formed between the attaching surface 230 and the alumina coating layer 250. The groove 240 has a predetermined depth to absorb coating material so as to increase the amount of coating material. And, a plurality of grooves
240 may be formed between the attaching surface 230 and the alumina coating layer
250. [31] A plurality of grooves 240 may be formed in a shape of 'D' along the length direction of attaching surface 230 with a predetermined space. [32] In the present embodiment, the compound type alumina having purity higher than
85% may be used as the coating material coated on the attaching surface 230.
[33] It is preferable to melt the compound type alumina coated on the attaching surface
230 in a temperature range of 1500 to 1700°C. If the compound type alumina is melted in a temperature range of 1500 to 1700°C, the alumina coating layer 250 may be formed to have alumina particles each having a size of 40 to 120D.
[34] FlG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the orthodontics bracket shown in FlG. 2.
[35] As shown in FlG. 3, the bracket 200 includes the slot 220 formed on the outer circumference of main body 210 and the alumina coating layer 250 including predetermined size of alumina particles formed on the attaching layer 230.
[36] The grooves 240 are formed between the attaching surface 230 and the coating layer 250. The grooves 240 absorb the melted alumina material when the compound type alumina material is melted in the predetermined range of temperatures to form the coating layer 250 on the attaching surface 230. Accordingly, the grooves 240 increase the amount of the alumina coating material by holding the melted alumina. As a result, the bracket 200 is firmly attached on the teeth.
[37] FlG. 4 is a flowchart of a method of attaching orthodontics brackets on teeth according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[38] As shown in FlG. 4, the method of attaching a bracket on teeth according to the present invention is a simple attaching method that prevents the reaction between bonding material of bracket and ceramic of teeth by applying a coating material on an attaching surface of bracket, melting the coating material through applying heat in a predetermined temperature to form a coating layer and cooling the coating layer down in the room temperature.
[39] At first, the compound type alumina having the purity higher than 85% is coated on the attaching surface 230 of the bracket 200 in operation S400.
[40] The alumina coated bracket 200 is heated in a temperature range of 1500 to 1700°C and the heated alumina coated bracket 200 is maintained in the highest temperature, for example about 1600°C, for 10 to 30 minutes in operation S420. It is for mixing the melted alumina with the attaching surface 230 of bracket 200 sufficiently.
[41] In operation S420, the temperature may be increased 5°C per a minute. If the highest temperature is set as 1600°C as an example, it requires 320 minutes to heat the alumina coated bracket 200 to reach about 1600°C.
[42] After the alumina coated bracket 200 is heated in a temperature range of 1500 to
1700°C and is maintained in the highest temperature 1600°C for 10 to 30 minutes, the alumina coated bracket 200 is cooled down in the room temperature for a predetermined time in operation S440. The cooling is required to stably form the alumina coating layer 250 on the attaching surface 230 of bracket. [43] After forming the alumina coating layer 250 on the attaching layer 230 through the cooling process, the bracket is inspected to determine whether the alumina coating layer 250 is stably formed on the attaching layer or whether the shape of bracket 200 is modified in operation S460. [44] The compound type alumina having purity higher than 85% includes 8OD particles in average. If such a compound type alumina is melted and coated on the attaching surface 230, the alumina coating layer 250 may have particles having a size of 40 to
120D. [45] After the inspection process is performed to determine that the alumina coating layer 250 is properly formed on the attaching layer 230, the bracket 200 is attached on the teeth in operation S480 using a bonding material. [46] The bonding material may be a light bond introduced at the ISO or the international standard, such as a bonding material for photopolymerization. [47] After attaching the bracket 200, the wire is installed by being inserted into the slot
220 to connect the brackets 200 and to hold the brackets 200 on the teeth. [48] The bracket 200 is easily detached from the teeth with less force without damaging the teeth by the alumina coating layer 250 formed on the attaching layer 230 of bracket. That is, the alumina coating layer 250 minimizes to remove the enamel from the teeth when the bracket 200 is removed from the teeth.
