Abstract
A method of increasing useable light from a high intensity arc lamp without an increase in energy use. In one aspect, the method modifies the conventional HE) arc tube by operating it without heat reflective coatings on opposite ends. In another aspect of the invention, the salt pool inside the arc tube is increased. In a further aspect, the arc tube is operated at or near horizontal. These aspects can be used in any combination.
