Abstract

A fairway wood head (10) comprises a stainless steel body (12) and a cup-shaped alloy face member (14) attached by silver-nickel brazing. The ace member (14) is preferably of variable thickness, being thicker at its center than at its outer periphery. Weights (40) are attached at the toe and heel, respectively, of the body to resist twisting of the head during an off-center hit. Weights (44) are attached in the sole (46) of the body (12) on opposite sides of a front-to-rear centerline of the head (10) to lower the center of gravity of the head (10). The head (10) has a hosel (50) which includes a stainless steel inner portion (52) and a titanium alloy outer sleeve portion (54) disposed around and attached to the inner portion (52).
