Abstract

The invention relates to thickener concentrates which are free of solvents and surfactants and can be dispersed in water, said thickener concentrates consisting of (a) between 1 and 98 wt. % of a HEUR type polyurethane associative thickener, (b) between 1 and 98 wt. % of an associative thickener of a polyether type, and (c) between 1 and 98 wt. % of water, the weight percentages of the individual constituents relating to the composition of the entire concentrate and the sum of the constituents (a), (b) and (c) amounting to 100 %, with the proviso that the constituent (b) is selected from the compounds of formula (I), R1-ABCD (I), wherein R1 is selected from trivalent or quadrivalent radicals of the group of linear or branched aliphatic groups comprising between 3 and 50 C atoms, cycloalkyl groups comprising between 4 and 20 C atoms, olefinically unsaturated linear or branched aliphatic groups comprising between 3 and 40 C atoms, cycloalkenyl groups comprising between 5 and 20 C atoms and aromatic groups, said aromatic groups being optionally substitutable by between 1 and 4 linear and/or branched aliphatic groups, and the entire number of C atoms of the optionally substituted aromatic groups amounting to between 6 and 21, with the proviso that, within the radical R1, up to four methylene groups (-CH2-), that cannot however be directly adjacent, can be respectively replaced by an oxygen atom (-O-); A represents a group -(O-Xi-R2)n; B represents a group -(O-xj-R3)m; C represents a group -(O-Xk-R4)0; and D represents a group -(O-X1-R5 )p, X representing an ethyleneoxy group, a 1,2 propyleneoxy group or a 1,2 butyleneoxy group, the indices i, j, k and 1 independently representing 0 or a number between 50 and 200, with the proviso that at least two of the indices i, j, k and l are different from 0, the indices n, m, o and p independently representing respectively 0 or 1, with the proviso that at least three of the indices n, m, o and p have the value 1, and also that, if n, m, o or p have the value 0, the corresponding valency of the radical R1 is saturated with hydrogen, and the radicals R2 to R5 independently represent alkyl, aryl or alkaryl groups comprising respectively between 1 and 50 C atoms.
