Abstract

The invention relates to sheet value documents with a machine-readable security feature and methods and devices for the production or checking of such value documents, whereby a sheet value document is provided with a code which may be read in the invisible spectral region, in particular, a barcode. The barcode is a codification of at least one measurable property of said value document and the barcode can thus be used as a signature particular to said banknote, when the encoded properties differentiate different banknotes or groups of banknotes. The use of a barcode which may be read in the invisible spectral region is a particularly good security against forgery, for example, in the form of colour copying.
