Abstract

A foldable wheelchair (10) comprises a substantially horizontally extending upper side frame member (14a). An upper end of an axle plate (12a) is secured to the upper side frame member (14a). An axle housing (54a) is secured to the axle plate (12a). A cross brace (22a) is pivotally secured directly to the axle plate (12a) at the lower end of the axle plate (12a). A wheel mount assembly (132) comprises an axle sleeve mount (135) having an internal thread (135b). An axle sleeve (136) has an external thread (136a) that is in threaded engagement with the internal thread (135b) of the axle sleeve mount (135). The axle sleeve (136) has an internal bore (136b) that accepts a wheel axle (138). The internal bore (136b) is angled with respect to the axis of the external threads (135b) to provide camber to a wheel (38a). The axle sleeve (136) is adapted to provide lateral adjustment to the wheel by rotating the axle sleeve (136) within the axle sleeve mount (135) any number of complete revolutions. Moreover, the axle sleeve (136) is adapted to provide toe in and toe out adjustment to a cambered wheel by rotating the axle sleeve (136) within the axle sleeve mount (135) a fraction of a complete revolution.
