Abstract

The invention relates to a device for securing a locked and/or fixed object, such as a container, outboard motor, etc., where said object comprises one or more outer locking mechanisms with at least one through opening. The invention is characterised in that it comprises an upper part (12) and a lower part (10) arranged to be assembled together to provide a lockable housing (14) around the locking mechanism(s) and that the upper part (12) and/or the lower part (10) comprises at least one means (16) arranged for insertion in said at least one opening in the locking mechanism.

Description

Device for securing of a locked and/or fixed object.
The present invention relates to a device for securing of a locked and/or fixed object, such as a container, outboard motor, etc., where said object comprises one or several outer locking mechanisms with at least one through opening.
The idea behind the present invention is to secure the contents of containers in a safer way than obtained with today's solutions. Normally, the doors are secured with a padlock in an external locking mechanism. In addition, there are fittings that are mounted securely on each container to secure/hide the padlock so that it shall be more difficult to have access to.
The present invention utilises the securing possibilities that are present on a container door.
The invention comprises in the main two parts where the upper part is inserted down into the hole or holes through which the padlock is normally inserted to secure the door. The lower part is inserted up into the upper part and they then form an approximately closed box with an opening in the bottom for fastening of the padlock. Several models have been developed to cover the different types of containers that are on the market. This system makes it difficult/impossible to gain access to the locks by cutting the padlocks that are normally used for locking containers.
Break-ins in containers are a big problem and more and more companies use containers for storage. Therefore, it is desirable to secure containers in a better way.
The invention can also be used in a corresponding way, for example, for boats in connection with securing outboard motors, in that the locking mechanism of the outboard motor to the stern is closed inside a lockable housing.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is characterised by the characteristic part of the independent claim 1 , in that the device comprises an upper part and a lower part arranged to provide a lockable housing around the locking mechanism(s) when mutually assembled together, and that the upper part and/or the lower part comprise at least one means adapted to be inserted in said at least one opening in the locking mechanism of the object. Preferred alternative embodiments are characterised by the dependent claims 2-9, in that the upper part and the lower part each are designed of an elongated body, such that when assembled together they provide a lockable housing with at least three outer side surfaces. The upper part can comprise at least one outwardly extending male body arranged to be inserted in said at least one opening in the locking mechanism(s) of the object, where the male body is inserted into a corresponding outwardly extending female body in the lower part. Furthermore, the upper part can comprise at least one locking means to lock the upper part and the lower part together.
The locking body can comprise an outwardly extending rod arranged for insertion into or between a corresponding locking slot or locking eye in the lower part. The housing can comprise at least one opening arranged for insertion of a padlock or the like, whereby said locking means is locked with the help of said padlock. Alternatively, said locking means can comprise an integrated locking mechanism that can be locked with the help of a key.
The housing is preferably arranged around the locking mechanism of a container, and the upper part and/or the lower part can comprise grooves arranged to lie against the vertical locking rod of the container. The housing can alternatively be arranged around the locking mechanism(s) of an outboard motor.
The invention shall now be described in more detail with reference to the enclosed drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a lower part according to the present invention.
Figure 2 shows an upper part according to the present invention.
Figure 3 shows a section of the upper part and the lower part fitted together.
As the figures show, the present invention comprises a lower part 10 and an upper part 12, which when assembled together constitute a housing 14. The aim of the invention is as mentioned to secure containers, outboard motors, etc., and when the housing 14 is assembled together, for example, over the locking mechanism (not shown) of a container, the housing will form a box around the locking mechanism so that it will be very difficult, or impossible to have access, for example, to a padlock inside the housing. The upper part 12 comprises at least one outwardly extending male body 16 arranged to be inserted in a through opening in, for example, a container or in the locking mechanism of an outboard motor. The locking mechanism of a container or an outboard motor is known to one skilled in the art and will therefore not be described further. The lower part 10 comprises a corresponding female body 18 to receive the male body. Preferably two male bodies and corresponding female bodies are used, but fewer or more can, of course, be used.
When the locking mechanism of the container is shut, the upper part 12 is placed above the locking mechanism of the container and the male parts 16 are inserted into the through opening in the locking mechanism of the container. Thereafter, the lower part 10 is brought to the upper part 12, whereupon they are connected together and locked to provide a lockable housing 14 around the locking mechanism of the container. The same is carried out around the locking mechanism of an outboard motor or another object that is to be secured.
For the housing about said locking mechanism to have a purpose, the housing 14 must consequently be able to be locked together so that it cannot be opened by strangers. This can, for example, be carried out in that the padlock which is normally used for locking of the container is used to lock one or more locking bodies 20 provided in the housing 14. In the embodiment example shown in the figures, these locking bodies 20 consist of one simple solution where a rod or bar 22 in the upper part 12 is inserted through an eye in the form of, for example, two opposite plates 24 in the lower part. The rod 22 comprises an opening in its lower through part for insertion and securing of the padlock.
In a more advanced solution, the locking body 20 can comprise an integrated locking mechanism that can be locked on its own with the help of a key.

Claims

CLAIMS.
1. Device for securing a locked and/or fixed object, such as a container, outboard motor etc., where said object comprises one or more outer locking mechanisms with at least one through opening, characterised i n that the device comprises an upper part (12) and a lower part (10) arranged to be mutually joined to provide a lockable housing (14) around the locking mechanism(s), and that the upper part (12) and/or the lower part (10) comprise at least one means (16) arranged for insertion in said at least one opening in the locking mechanism.
2. Device according to claim 1 , characterised in that the upper part (12) and the lower part (10) are each shaped in the form of an elongated body which, when joined together, provides a lockable housing (14) with at least three outer side surfaces.

Device according to claim 2, characterised in that the upper part (12) comprises at least one outwardly extending male body (16) arranged to be inserted in said at least one opening in the locking mechanism(s) of the object, and that the male body (16) is inserted into a corresponding outwardly extending female body (18) in the lower part (10).
4. Device according to claims 2-3, characterised in that the upper part (12) comprises at least one locking body (20) to lock the upper part (12) and the lower part (10) together.
5. Device according to claim 4, characterised in that the upper part (12) comprises an outwardly extending rod (22) arranged for insertion into or between a corresponding locking slot (24) or locking eye, in the lower part (10).
6. Device according to claim 5, characterised in that the housing (14) comprises at least one opening (26) arranged for insertion of a padlock or the like, whereby said locking body (20) is locked with the help of mentioned padlock.
7. Device according to claim 5, characterised in that said locking body (20) comprises an integrated locking mechanism that can be locked with the help of a key.
8. Device according to one or more of the preceding claims, character i s e d in that the housing (14) is arranged around the locking mechanism of a container.
9. Device according to claim 8, characterised in that the upper part (12) and/or the lower part (10) comprise grooves (28) arranged to lie against the vertical locking rod of the container.
10. Device according to one or more of the preceding claims, character i s e d in that the housing (14) is arranged around the locking mechanisms of an outboard motor.
