Abstract

In an authentication process for verifying an authorisation to access a computer system, a first connection (12) is established to transmit data between an accessing computer system (10) and an accessed computer system (14). After an authorisation code is transmitted to the accessed computer system, a request is transmitted to the accessing computer system, requesting it to establish a second connection over a telephone network (20). The establishment of this second connection causes the telephone number of a telecommunications device (22) to be automatically transmitted to the authentication system. After the telephone number transmitted is compared with a telephone number stored in connection with the authorisation code, access to the accessed computer system (14) is granted.
