Abstract

The NEPUZ consists of three identical parts that are installed on the wheel of a vehicle. Each part comprises the treading surface (10) and tightening screws (20). The treading surface is toothed, If the treading surface is made of metal or other solid material, hinges are placed at certain intervals (12), thus ensuring flexibility. A tightening screw operating as a clamp is fastened to a wheel. The rubber coating (21) lies on the tire, and its lower part on the edge of the rim. The head of the screw is similar to a butterfly nut so as to fasten two and two tightened adjacent screws with fastening devices.

Description

ANTI-SKID DEVICE FOR VEHICLE TIRES PROVIDING SEGMENTED TRACTION ELEMENTS
INVENTION ULIUVI JEJ j souF nυiN
The Scope of the Device
This device is installed on wheels of a car so as to allow driving in snow, ice, mud, sand and similar conditions.
Technical problem
For driving in snow and other iinfavourable conditions common tires are not coarse enough, thus causing spinning of wheels. The problem typically occurs in winter, especially on mountain roads, where the traffic may be brought to a stand-still due to poor weather, as well as while driving off-road, in the desert and so on.
Technical aspects
This problem is usually solved using chains. However, oftentimes the chains do not allow enough traction to mount a road covered over with ice, and an additional problem is installing the chains on the wheels of a vehicle. Lots of drivers lack the skill to do it well, particularly in sub-zero temperatures and snowstorms.
The quintessence of the device
The key aim of this device is to enable safe driving in snow and other unfavourable conditions. Another, equally important aim is to avoid the hassle of chains since this device is simple to install and uninstall.
The device which allows driving cars and other vehicles in snow, ice, mud, sand and similar conditions (referred to as die NEPUZ) is mounted on the driving wheels of the vehicle.
Three identical parts are installed on each wheel. Each part consists of the treading surface made of metal, plastic, rubber or other suitable material, with parallel teeth (like tank treads) and two screws needed to fasten the device on a wheel. If the treading surface is made of a solid material, hinges are to be placed at certain intervals so as to ensure flexibility at installing and facilitate putting the device away when it is no longer needed. The screw operates as a clamp, pressing down the full surface of the rubber coating on the tire, while the lower surface lies on the edge of the rim, The head of the screw is imilar to a butterfly nut so as to tighten two and two adjacent screws with fasteners that prevent unscrewing die bolts while driving and at the same time join all the three parts into a single unit, Installing the NEPUZ device requires that two out of the three parts be installed on that part of a wheel that is not currently on the road and the third part is installed after moving the vehicle for 0.5m. All the screws are tightened afterwards using safety devices (fasteners),
A short description of the figures
Figures included in the text illustrate the device application and help understanding the basic functional aspects of the device.
Fig.l is a three-dimensional image of one of the three identical parts the NEPUZ consists of. Fig,2 is a three-dimensional image of all the three parts installed on the wheel.
A detailed description of at least one device application
As Fig.l illustrates, the device comprises the treading surface (10) and tightening screws (2Q)v Dimensions depend on die profile of die wheel/tire die device is to be installed on and it amounts to exactly one third of the circumference of the tire it is intended for. When all the parts are installed, they completely cover the treading surface. On die treading surface there are teeth (11), the height and placement of which depend on the application. Fig.2 illustrates the way a screw presses down on the rubber coating (21), operating as a clamp, The whole of the rubber surface lies on the tire, whereas its lower part lies on the edge of the rim. It is also possible for the rubber coating to press down on eitiier the tire or the rim only. The head of the screw (22) is similar to a butterfly nut. All the three parts being installed and the screws tightened, security devices (fasteners) are put on two and two adjacent screws, preventing unscrewing and falling off of the device. The material used to make the treading surface can be metal, plastic, rubber or other, i case the material used is solid, hinges can be placed at certain intervals. That facilitates installing the device on cars which have only a little room between the wheel and die mudguard. Two parts of the NEPUZ device axe installed first on those parts of both driving wheels that are not on the road at the moment, and then the vehicle is moved a bit so as to install the third part as well. All the screws have to be tightened optimally and fastened afterwards.
The device application
This invention is a practical, long-lasting and useful device. It is of a higher quality th n chains and other devices of the same purpose and its production is highly economical
