Abstract

The invention concerns sending video-messages with motion picture and sound through the Internet regardless of the duration. The specific method applies to particular recipients through the Internet or the video- messages are sent through e-mails (outlook) and http and www registers. Special directory is used and there is the possibility of 3D pictures. The advantage of this invention is the possibility to send motion picture and sound through the Internet.

Description

Sending motion picture ana sound through the Internet (Video - message) Description technical specifications
Stages:
• Videotape recording
• Digitization of picture and sound • Transformation into streaming video
• Web publication
• E-mail sending
1) Videotape recording We video the message using a videocamera which can transfer the picture ans sound in digital form to a PC 2) Digitization of picture and sound In order to achieve the transfer, the format "dv" is used for high resolution of picture and sound. The data is transfered from the camera to the PC using a connection through firewire port (IEEE 1394). The initial non compact video is processed by Abode Premiere, the special picture processing programme and the final file which will be used for the production of the streaming video is ready. The dimensions of the resolution of the picture in the non compact video are 320 x 240 pixels and the format is Microsoft DV. The sound is digitized in WAV PCM form in 44.1 khz 16 bit stereo quality.
3) Transformation into streaming video
Export of the processed video to sreaming file is conducted. The streaming form has the advantage over a simle video is preloaded and a buffer is used for the the unhindered transmission of the video without having to wait for the whole file to be loaded.
The streaming files are produced for the 3 platforms of the streaming video which are used: • Microsoft Windows Media
• QuickTime
• Real player
Two streaming files are made for each platform depending on the rate of the transmission of data we wish. 1. Transmission rate 48 kbps (intended for dial up connections) Resolution 240 x 180
2. Transmission rate 127 kbps (intended for ISDN and broadband connections) The final files which are produced have an WMV (Microsoft Windows Media) format, mov (QuickTime) and ram (Real Player) which are identified as streaming content by the receiver which has appropriate programmes.
4) Web publication
The final files (the streaming form which is mentioned above) are uploaded through ftp in a webserver of wide range of bandwidth and connection in a backbone network.
A special application sorts them appropriately so as the proper video is screened according to the programme preference of the recipient and the connection rate.
An exclusive site of screening is made for every message (through php programming language). Depending on the programme selection (Microsoft
Windows, Media Quicktime, Real player) in this site, there is each time the player as an embedded object and the streaming video is finally screened through the internet browser. Each message corresponds with a unique url link (the form is similar to http: //www.mayatv. r/videomessagei) which is usedfor the screening the message. 5) E-mail sending
The corresponding url link which is described above is used as a text for the alert mail which will be sent to the sender.
When the sender receives the e-mail and clicks on the link which is pointed out, he is led to the site of the appropriate message where he can see the video-message by selecting the screening programme he prefers as well as the connection rate. Sending motion picture arioi sound through the Internet (Video - message)
The invention concerns sending motion picture and sound through the Internet by following the stages given below:
- Videotape recording
- Digitization of picture and sound
- Transformation into streaming video
- Web publication - E-mail sending
A similar sending method, involving only texts or even pictures, which are however steady (photos), is known.
This method is particularly simple and only texts and steady pictures can be sent. This method refers to one recipient through his personal e-mail.
The advantage of this invention is the possibility to send motion picture and sound through the Internet and the fact that it applies to a particular number of recipients. There is the possibility to watch the picture through the television receiver, this can be achieved in two ways: A) by using a card which supports tv-our
B) by using a decoder Motion picture and sound sending through the Internet includes the following stages in order to be completed:
- Videotape recording
- Digitization of picture and sound - Transformation into streaming video - Web publication
- E-mail sending
A. Videotape recording
We video the message using a videocamera which can transfer the picture ans sound in digital form to a PC
B. Digitization of picture and sound
In order to achieve the transfer, the format "dv" is used for high resolution of picture and sound.
The sound is digitized in
WAV PCM form in 44.1 khz 16 bit stereo quality.
C. Transformation into streaming video
Export of the processed video to sreaming file is conducted. The streaming form has the advantage over a simle video is preloaded and a buffer is used for the the unhindered transmission of the video withouthaving to wait for the whole file to be loaded.
The streaming files are produced for the 3 platforms of the streaming video which are used:
- Microsoft Windows Media
- QuickTime
- Real player
Two streaming files are made for each platform depending on the rate of the transmission of data we wish.
- Transmission rate 48 kbps (intended for dial up connections) Resolution 240 x 180
- Transmission rate 127 kbps (intended for ISDN and broadband connections) Resolution 320 x 240 The final files which are produced have an WMV (Microsoft Windows Media) format, mov (QuickTime) and ram (Real Player) which are identified as streaming content by the receiver which has appropriate programmes.
D) Web publication The final files (the streaming form which is mentioned above) are uploaded through ftp in a webserver of wide range of bandwidth and connection in a backbone network. A special application sorts them appropriately so as the proper video is screened according to the programme preference of the recipient and the connection rate.
An exclusive site of screening is made for every message (through php programming language). Depending on the programme selection (Microsoft Windows, Media QuickTime, Real player) in this site, there is each time the player as an embedded object and the streaming video is finally screened through the internet browser.
Each message corresponds with a unique url link (the form is similar to http://www.mavatv.gr/videomessagei) which is usedfor the screening the message. E) E-mail sending
In order for the procedure of sending video-messages through the Internet to be completed, the participation of a specialist director is required. This is due to the fact that the procedure of direction includes some specialirez stages and requires special direction using
- Steady shots
- Special lights
- Special angles
- Close zooms This is an important difference between our method and the previous ones.
Furthermore, there is the possibility of transmitting 3D pictures as long as a particular rate of shanging pictures, particular colours etc are created in a special way.
Some typical examples of our method are the following: - The President of the Union of Municipalites and communes of Greece can talk and be seen by all mayors of the country by video-message sending.
- The Minister of Education can talk and be seen by all students in the country through the particular method.
- A teacher can give lessons to a particular number of students recipients who can be in different areas by sending a video-message.
