Abstract

Cette invention se rapporte à un système de conversion de polarisation (PCS) compact (210) conçu pour être utilisé dans des systèmes d'affichage optique et qui est capable d'émettre une lumière de sortie essentiellement polarisée en réponse à une lumière d'entrée non polarisée. Ce système PCS comprend un polariseur et un ou plusieurs réseaux d'éléments optiques essentiellement plans (204) en communication optique avec le polariseur. Le polariseur convertit la lumière d'entrée présentant plusieurs étapes de polarisation en une lumière de sortie présentant essentiellement un seul état de polarisation. Chaque réseau d'éléments optiques comprend plusieurs éléments optiques formés et positionnés selon un agencement bidimensionnel spécifique, de façon à modifier au moins une caractéristique otique de la lumière d'entrée, en vue de produire les caractéristique souhaitées dans la lumière de sortie. Ces éléments optiques peuvent être constitués par n'importe quelle combinaison de micro-guides d'ondes, micro-tunnels, microlentilles et micro-prismes.
