Abstract

The present invention is a safety device for use with an electrical apparatus. The device is located proximate an electrical connection between the electrical apparatus (22) and a power source (14) for the electrical apparatus. The safety device comprises at least one voltage sensor (308) coupled to an input of the safety device; at least one current sensor (316) coupled to an output of the safety device; one or more buffer amplifiers (312) coupled to respective ones of the voltage/and or current sensors; a controller (310) coupled to the at least one voltage and/or current sensors. The controller generates at least one output signal based on signals received from the voltage and/or current sensors to control at least one circuit interrupter set to interrupt a flow of current from the power source to the electrical apparatus based on predetermined criterion.
