Abstract

High grade phosphoric acid is an effective inhibitor of corrosion of metal systems storing or transporting urea ammonium nitrate solutions. High grade phosphoric acid may be used alone or in combination with other additives, such as a biocide. Corrosion of metal systems may be monitored by bringing at least one surface of a test coupon made of the same material as that of the metal system into contact with the urea ammonium nitrate solution, detecting a status of corrosion of the test coupon, and monitoring the corrosion of the tank based on results of the detecting.
