Description

Title: "IMPROVEMENT IN DENTAL IMPLANTS AND THEIR COMPONENTS"
This application claims the priority of Brazilian patent case N°. PI0400256-3 filed on January 12, 2004 which is hereby incorporated by reference. The present application relates to a novel improvement in dental implants and their components, which consists in using a preferably zirconium-based ceramic material in part of the metallic implant, forming hybrid implants of various shapes, either with the ceramic collum alone or with the prosthetic component in the same material, as well as with said prosthetic components in ceramic material, so as to provide a wider range of clinical options to the dentist, guaranteeing higher quality for the patient. This invention has the advantages of considerable esthetic improvement, eliminating the transgingival demarcation by the characteristic coloration of the metallic components, also providing the possibility of cutouts with dentistry drills so as to achieve peculiar final results with the anatomy of each patient. In addition, the ceramics brings about surface finish similar to glass, which reduces the accumulation of bacterial biofilms. Further with regard to the advantages, the present invention makes possible the applying of dentistry ceramics directly onto the component and finally favors the anatomical shape of the implants, since it is possible to produce these components in molds. The implant dentistry has grown very much in the last few years, particularly by virtue of the characteristics of titanium, which favors the bone integration with the bone tissue of the tooth, wherein titanium implants made in the form of screws especially have won favorable notoriety all over the world. In the present prior art, tooth implants are totally metallic in both the intra-osseous portion and the prosthetic supragingival components. The conventional models have a number of disadvantages, among which the metallic coloration that demarcates the metal line even under gums. Another drawback is that titanium has low strength, besides being difficult to machine, which renders the manufacture of more complex pieces difficult. Considering the above-cited problems and after numberless researches starting from the replacement of metallic parts that integrate the implant-prosthesis assembly by components and parts made from ceramics for direct implantation of the ceramic in anatomical shape, hybrids either with the ceramic collum alone or with the ceramic prosthetic component have been created, as well as the prosthetic ceramic components, for application in metallic or metallic-ceramic implants. The invention will now be described in greater detail with reference to the attached drawings. - Figure 1 shows an illustrative drawing of the improvement in hybrid implant with ceramic collum; - Figure 2 shows an illustrative drawing of the improvement in hybrid implant with unified prosthetic component; - Figure 3 shows an illustrative drawing in cross section of the improvement in implant with the prosthetic component attached thereto; - Figure 4 shows an illustrative side view of a prosthetic component in ceramic for attachment to hybrid or metallic implants, with hexagonal fitting; - Figure 5 shows an illustrative cross section in ceramic for attachment to hybrid or metallic implants; - Figure 6 shows a perspective illustrative view of a prosthetic component in ceramic for attachment to hybrid or metallic implants; - Figure 7 shows a top illustrative view of a prosthetic component in ceramic for attachment to hybrid or metallic implants; - Figure 8 shows a bottom illustrative view of a prosthetic component in ceramic for attachment to hybrid or metallic implants. The improvement in dental implants and their components have the advantages of providing easier-to-handle implants and their components and greater strength, besides providing better esthetic appearance. The invention consists of an improvement of metallic implants (1 ) and components (2) by replacing the parts that integrate the implant-prosthesis assembly with components (2) and parts made of ceramic material, for direct application of ceramic in anatomic shape, the ceramic being preferably based on zirconium and may be applied only on the collum (3) of the metallic implant (1 ), so that it will take its original shape, just as a ceramic extension. It may also be applied to form the implant (1 ), already with the integral prosthetic component (2), creating a single piece (5), or else with the prosthetic component attached to a metallic implant (1 ) or an implant (1 ) with the ceramic collum (3), wherein the fitting may be either internal or external by means of screws (4) or morse cone. Finally, the ceramic material may be used in manufacturing prosthetic components (2) of regular or anatomic shapes.
