Abstract

The invention relates to a drug delivery device comprising a polymeric matrix and a drug distributed within the matrix. The device is essentially free of solvents in particular organic solvents for the drug. Preferred polymer matrixed includes silicone, PTFE, bioabsorble materials, and IPNs. The drug delivery device may e.g. be a device adapted to be applied in contact with the human body. The drug delivery device is produced by loading a polymeric matrix with a drug using a drug carrier, in the form of a gas, a supercritical, a high pressure liquid, or a dense gas-like fluid. Preferred drug carrier includes CO2 in liquid and/or supercritical state.
