Abstract

The present invention relates to the field of adjustable pillow constructions in general, and in particular, to a remote controlled in height adjustable pillow construction.

Description

Adjustable Pillow
The present invention relates to the field of adjustable pillow constructions in general, and in particular, to a remote controlled pillow construction which is adjustable in height.
A normal pillow for sleeping comprises no special support of the back of the neck and due to the different figures of different persons, they may find different levels of thickness of the pillow suitable or non-suitable to themselves. Even the same person may like to change the thickness of the pillow while sleeping, for instance, if the person turns from the backside to lie on the shoulder or reverse. Everybody, healthy or ill, young or old, may get serious problems in the neck if the height or the thickness of the pillow is not correct.
Pillows for the support of the back of the neck have profilerated in the past few years. Most of such supporting pillows are manufactured in standard size pillows. The major drawback of prior art supporting pillows is the fact that the support provided by the pillow is not adjustable. Thus, a pillow with firmer support or greater height may be more comfortable when the user is lying on his or her side, while less firm support or less height is desired when the user is lying on his or her back. Currently, the situation would require two separate pillows or different firmness or height to provide the desired comfort.
It is therefore a general object of the present invention to provide a pillow with adjustable height.
The adjustable pillow of the present invention comprises a mechanism inside the pillow, which enables an enlargement or diminishment of the height of the pillow. This mechanism comprises at least a motor for adjusting the height of the pillow. According to a first aspect of the invention, the motor drives a column to adjust the height of the pillow.
According to a second aspect of the invention, the adjustable pillow comprises an airtight chamber, e.g. a balloon, which can be inflated by air or gas and deflated. In this embodiment of the present invention, the motor is an electric pump which allows to pump air into the chamber or balloon.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the mechanism to adjust the pillow in height can be controlled by a small remote control, preferably at the commode side of the bed. This small remote control comprises preferably only two buttons to control the up and down movement of the pillow and, therefore, the variable thickness of the pillow.
The adjustable pillow is suitable for every person, man or woman, healthy or ill, young or old, and prevents pain in the neck which allows a quick, smooth and quiet sleep.
The present invention will be further described with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional side view of a first embodiment of the adjustable pillow of the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a side view of a normal prior art pillow,
Figs. 3a to 3c are side views showing the different heights or thicknesses of the adjustable pillow of the invention; and
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional side view of the adjustable pillow according to a second embodiment of the present invention.
Fig. 1 shows a first embodiment of the adjustable pillow according to the present invention with a cover textile 1, cotton and/or sponge and/or feathers used as padding or filling 2 and two supporting sheets 3 and 4. The two supporting sheets 3 and 4 are movable relative to the pillow and to each other by means of column 6, which is variable in height and driven by motor 5. The support sheets 3, 4 may be sufficiently flexible and/or comfortable to the shape of the pillow to allow a comfortable resting of the head on the pillow. A rechargeable battery 7 delivers the energy support for the motor 5. For a convenient control of the desired adjustment of the pillow, a remote control 8 comprises two buttons to enlarge or diminish the height of the pillow. Furthermore, charger 9 can easily recharge the rechargeable battery 7. Figs. 3a to 3c show the adjustable pillow with different height and thickness according to the desire of the user, whereas Fig. 2 depicts a normal pillow.
Fig. 4 shows a second embodiment of the present invention with a cover textile 1 , cotton and/or sponge and/or feather filling or padding 2 and an airtight chamber or rubber balloon 10. In this embodiment the motor 5 is a compressor, which enables to inflate or deflate the airtight rubber balloon 10. The energy support is delivered by rechargeable battery 7 which can be recharged with charger 9. For convenient control of the height of the adjustable pillow a remote control 8 is available outside of the pillow and comprises preferably two buttons to adjust the height of the pillow.

Claims

Claims
1. Adjustable pillow comprising a height adjustable mechanism.
2. The adjustable pillow according to claim 1 comprising: an airtight chamber, and a motor, wherein the motor is a compressor for inflating or deflating the airtight chamber.
3. The adjustable pillow according to claim 1 comprising: a support column variable in height, and a motor, wherein the motor adjusts the height of the variable column.
4. The adjustable pillow according to claim 2 or 3, wherein the motor is an electrical motor inside the pillow.
5. The adjustable pillow according to any preceding claim, further comprising a remote control for controlling the height adjustable mechanism.
6. The adjustable pillow according to claim 5, wherein the remote control is a wireless remote control.
