Ein Schutzeinsatz (1) für eine Kopfbedeckung umfasst eine Anzahl innerer Öffnungen (2a) aufweisende innere Schale (4), eine von der inneren Schale (4) beabstandete, eine Anzahl äußerer Öffnungen (2) aufweisende äußeren Schale (3), ein zwischen den Schalen (3,4) angeordnetes nachgiebiges Verbindungsmaterial (6), wobei die gesamte Verbindungsfläche, welche das Verbindungsmaterial auf der äußeren Oberfläche der inneren Schale (4) einnimmt, geringer ist als die äußere Oberfläche der inneren Schale (4) abzüglich der Summe aus der Fläche der inneren Öffnungen (2a) und der Fläche der äußeren Öffnungen (2).
